I just put some new spark plug wires on my 1997 3.4 V6 4x4 Taco because the cylinder 4 spark plug wire was intermittently shorting in to the block causing a cylinder 4 misfire. I changed the wires, and the truck ran great! I was on my way to a job today, felt two pulses of loss of power an then it died. I coasted in to a parking lot and tried to start it. Truck turned over but wouldn't start. I tried again. The temperature gauge shot up to max for a little while before returning to 40% where it should be. It seemed like an electrical problem of some sort. The truck started and I was able to drive a few feet before it died. I tried one more time. The truck started and I was able to drive home without any problems. Any ideas Tacoma World?

My guess is that the plug wire problem is unrelated to the other. I would check ground wires and connections. Might be an intermittent connection in another wire somewhere. Good luck.

Solved. One of my vacuum hoses had come loose. Thanks for responding!
