BBP. Waiting on the wife now before heading over. Got the USAA best price, which turned out to be about $1300 off MSRP. I picked up the steps and bed cover separately and will be installing them this weekend. The Husky liners are going in immediately, since I saved $230 on floor mat delete.

I was so glad when the DoD stickers weren't mandatory anymore.

Life in the SCIF ain't nothing to write home about. Boring, anal, and paranoid.

On a more fun note, my truck is finally, FINALLY home!

I thought this would be the most appropriate place to post this.

Please send thoughts/prayers to a young national guard vet I went to school with.
He was at his yearly training and got sent home because of a death in the family and another family member in ICU.
His girlfriend also broke up with him while he was at training so he's feeling a little down with everything going on.

He seems to be dealing pretty well but any thoughts/prayers would be appreciated.

Thanks for the bump - I forgot about this one.

Some new news from the VA that isn't about someone fucking up.

The VA has recently launched Vets.gov: https://www.vets.gov/. This site is designed to make it MUCH easier to request benefits and care than the nightmare process we've all been through (unless you're still in uniform).

Conversations in other threads have shown me that not every vet is registered with the VA, and this really surprises me. EVERY veteran should be registered with the VA whether they think need the VA's services or not. You may feel fine today, but like the Vietnam vets who are suffering from the long-term effects of Agent Orange exposure it's easier to get care if you're already in the system than it is when starting a new claim from scratch.

This is a right we've all earned and we should be taking advantage of it. I'm not a benefits counselor (I'm in IT) but there's a lot of assistance available out there.

Anyway, that's the VA news I have. Later y'all.

You're absolutely right man--it's a benefit we are entitled to that we have earned, granted some need the health care benefit much more than others and there are "tiers" so to say of the level of coverage and treatment that you qualify for based on your disability rating as determined by the VA. 2 years ago I worked as a work study at my local county Veterans Service Office for a year helping to process fellow veterans VA Claims and I too was surprised how many vets just simply DON'T KNOW about the plethora of benefits and resources that are out there waiting for them. If i can do my part in helping a veteran down the road out who doesn't know where to start, or stumbles across this thread I will say:

    1. Register for an account on "eBenefits" https://www.ebenefits.va.gov/ebenefits/homepage
    2. "My HealtheVet" https://www.myhealth.va.gov/mhv-por...tal?_nfpb=true&_nfto=false&_pageLabel=mhvHome
    3. Find a LOCAL VSO (Veterans Service Office) to you: http://nvf.org/veteran-service-officers/ to get help requesting your OMPF (Official Military Personnel Files) to get a VA Claim started..

It's never too late! I've seen more than a few Vietnam/Korea/WWII veterans start claims decades later and finally get the healthcare treatment they deserve, accompanied with huge back-pay checks..
