Finally got my Tacoma tuned today by @PapaRee , drove 3 hours to get it done. It was definitely a more enjoyable drive back hone. If you are anywhere close you definitely need to contact him to get this done. I definitely love the way my truck drives now. Thanks again @PapaRee!!!

Glad you are liking the tune brother!!
Its always nice when you can get more power, smooth, predictable shifting, predictable throttle, and better gas mileage.
I was able to do the TSB (04b03 to 04b04) with techstream, and load my custom tune on his truck in about 30min.
Anyone in the south (Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas) area that's interested, PM me for details.

I'm not sure where to ask this. I haven't been tuning cars since my buddies 89 mustang. I've been looking at VF and it looks like the computer is way more capable than what I'm used to. After an exhaust and intake on the mustang, the A/F ratio was screwed until you tuned it. Will the taco handle stuff like dump tubes without dyno time etc. I know the lack of cats will set the light off but I'm mainly wondering at the trucks ability to compensate for modification and make good power. VF looks like you can set a target A/F for every situation so I assume that is safe. I don't understand the timing limits but I gather that will also adjust to prevent detonation.
With what I understand now, I guess the real tuning after modifications would be acis, shift points, and airload tables

For now, people are learning Vftuner functions by sharing info/findings with each other. There is a thread all about it (it’s getting long) that has a lot of information. Mat who owns OVtune and Vftuner is supposed to be doing some training webinars in the near future.
I would think that there are specific changes that could be made with Vftuner for exhaust, dump tubes, cold air intakes, etc. but I haven’t gotten that far with my Vftuner knowledge. I do feel that we have been able to make some very significant improvements so far with the knowledge that has been shared.

for this i would suggest starting with a performance tune (why i ask AT or MT) from OV in one of the available tune packs for your particular ECU version, and go from there... you can tweak and edit. OV does make dump tubes, but not sure of availability. i have had the catless and now the catted. starting from scratch editing the stock tune as-is is definitely not recommended if you want to hit the ground running in this life. OV (Mat) himself has said these are unnecessarily complex ECUs and not at all straightforward with tuning. vF is evolving at a strong pace, so i suggest you get a pre-made tune, do what you want hardware-wise, and then get into your tweaks as your performance shows.

I guess some background would have been helpful. I have vf with 2.0 mainly to fix the crappy automatic shifting.
I'm waiting for the webinar to learn vf but I feel like I probably need to get a better idea of how the ecu will compensate. In 1989 the ecu was very simple and it was very easy to go past the computers ability to compensate with bolt on mods. A larger MAF sensor could cause a very lean condition. Maybe the webinar will open my eyes a bit.

@Kyle831 Did you find someone to do a tune for you? I can do it if you have a 2016-2017. I'm in Stockton.

Setup the software? vF from the ovtuned.com homepage. Tactrix drivers. And, TechStream from the ECU Update 1st Post?

I am assuming that you saw the vF Instructions under ovtuned.com Resources menu and looked through the Blog / News section?

I haven't received anything yet. I just read the vftune installation instructions and hope the install is as easy and straight forward as it is written. If I have questions I know I'm at the right place to get them answered.

It is. I don't think the Tactrix drivers are noted in the Instructions.

If you are trying to flash someone's truck for them without knowing their ECU ahead of time, is the best way to go is flash their ECU to the most up to date stock image and then load a tune for that most up to date stock image assuming you've already spent the credits to unlock the tunes for that stock image?

Yes. I always update as it is the best base for the tunes.

You have to request the Tune Pack that you want as most folks will update to the latest available ECU ID. If you're a 2020 AT, that would be 04B81 using the latest TSB-0092-20. If you're a 2020 MT, there is no TSB out yet. Hopefully, you're 04B91? Keep an eye on the NHTSA site.

Nah. You didn't screw up. You just Unlocked you ECU ID for editing.

If you paid for a Tune Pack during your purchase, just reply to your order confirmation email like you did for the REG file, request the 04B81 TP, and @OVTune will send you a reply with the download link.
