I think he's asking if there's a conversion factor. I thought it was determined 1.13 was that factor for the shift schedules.

I am 100% confident that the shift schedule map units for ECU 04A61 are miles per hour. Perhaps these maps are in kph for other ECUs?

Got it to work this morning.
    • Tried vF Tuner and encountered the same issue
    • Tried vF Flash Tool and it was unsuccessful too
    • Re-ran vF Tuner and everything worked fine. Successful load of Kruiser 4.0
Not sure what changed but I suspect the running of vF Flash tool cleared out something which allowed vF Tuner to work correctly.
Passing along as FYI to anyone else encountering the same issue.

    Kruiser 4.0 convert here - thanks @PapaRee !

Only 30 miles on the tune but very impressed so far. Smooth shifting 1-4, cruise control held small inclines, able to accelerate when needed on the on-ramps and passing. As others have said, this is the way the truck should have been tuned from the factory.
Time will tell if MPG improves but that will be icing on the cake.

Baseline - 2018 Off-road with 04A61. Stock running 87 octane. Retirement daily driver rig.

First impressions: If you are on the fence re: Kruiser 4.0 - just do it!

    Thanks for the info!

Is it normally recommended to reset at and lv if we are just switching to a higher octane version of the same tune?

Not really, you should be fine without reset. I would run a couple of tanks of higher octane before flashing the tune though.

Like @ihatemytruck said, I would NOT reset LV and AT unless your truck was doing something funny---like not shifting correctly, bad mpg's, etc...

SHIEEET @PapaRee , damn near took off my side mirror coming out of the garage after loading 4.0. Was not expecting that punch!

Thanks so much for the tune, got about 30ish miles on it and these sketchy freeway on-ramps are no longer a problem.

First time poster, but been following this forum for several months. This is a great community, so thanks everyone for your input and willingness to collaborate, good stuff!

I updated my 2019 ECU from 04B31 to 04B33 first using the TSB via TechStream. I did clear the LV & AT as per the instructions for that update. I let the ECU settle-in and soak for about a month before applying @PapaRee's Kruiser 4 but did not reset LV/AT, and I see no reason to reset it after applying a VFtune flash. The TSB update to 04B33 made a HUGE difference, and I recommend it to anyone running a 2019 (or similar model year where a newer TSB fixes the shifting). The truck drove more normally with the TSB, but just wasn't quite where I felt it should be. After applying K 4 though... THIS is what Toyota should have tuned from the factory. I love the balance of power, smooth shifting, gas mileage, throttle response and overall feel of the powertrain. If you haven't checked out OVTuned, you don't love your Tacoma. just sayin! Also, big shoutout to the team who is posting Dyno Results... keep em' flowin!

With the Kruiser 4.0 tune are you supposed to run higher octane fuel?

Have a 2021 TRDOR... Don't have any issues really with the shifting points... Would like to wake it up with a bit more "get up and go" when I stomp on the gas... Already ordered a full suspension lift and will be running bigger tires, which will decrease power even further...

Big if true. I don't recall seeing that and it does seem odd that just that ECU would use different units but hey, if that's how it be, that's how it do.

There is a regular octane version and a premium octane version.
    Minimal difference in performance.

There is a regular and premium. I like it so far but only have 100 miles. Looks like the tune is based off 2.0 with different shift points and torque converter settings. It does have small changes to direct injection and some ignition changes that I don't exactly understand. I imagine that could give more power in the absence of tranny changes. Somebody educated will speak up.
Edit: I type slow I guess

    Thanks fellas.

So if I don't have issues with the current shifting points, no hunting for gears, would this still be beneficial? I've read some people saying the truck feels quicker, better MPG, etc... That seems worthwhile to me if true.

My 2021 definitely shifts better than my 2017 did, so maybe something changed in the stock tune.

I'm not great at this but I imagine you could get the tune and compare it to the stock tune. Then copy the stock transmission settings if you didn't like the performance ones. I changed the tip in to stock but so far the shifting seems on point

I may be in the wrong spot, but was curious if anyone here could help me with some problems I encountered today. I have sent an email to OV but thought I may get a response here as well.

I just tried to tune my truck for the first time and encountered a couple problems. I was able to Prepare the ECU, but when I actually went to flash I was hit with this error message: Unable to Communicate with ECM. Program Failed. Vehicle may not be able to be started.

Luckily the truck DOES still start, but I can't figure out what I have done wrong. 4 of my credits were taken away, but the Unlocked ID says "NOSIG" and I am unable to download anything in reference to it, just more error messages.

I did not, and I don't have anything currently in my email from you, just the email that says the request was received, even checked the spam folder. To clarify I am 100% sure this is a user error and not in anyway OVTunes fault. I am just dumb and impatient so I came here haha
