Post a log with you running a few 0-60 @ WOT. Have kclv and feedback values as well as engine load and accelerator position

 

Just to be the devil's advocate right now, what's stopping me from taking a locked tune and calling it my own? I can just lie to a customer, saying that I made this, I changed this and that, yada yada BS. If they wanted proof, I could open up a random tune and "show" them. Locking the file does not prevent someone from using it and calling it their own. It only prevents someone from seeing what has been changed or from them making changes to it.

Also, just to be the devil's advocate again, how would we know if a user contributed edit is included in any of these "premium" tunes? If you're going to mention royalties, might as well make sure it covers everyone.

I'm not going to "shoot" anyone. I don't care that people are willing to pay for others tunes and I'm not bashing anyone for doing so. If it floats your boat, go for it. I just think we're moving backwards now. A few months ago we were working together to make improvements. Now some have went behind closed doors.

 

Personally I make a change and test it for at least a half tank before determining if it stays or goes. I put 2-3 tanks of gas on a tune before moving it to a beta test with my testers.

Before a tune is even released here I personally have over $150 in gas that I wouldn’t have used otherwise. Not to mention the countless hours I spent editing logging and refining. Late nights and time not spent with the family because something didn’t feel right with the truck.

Releasing things free to the community is always nice and a good thing. But you get nothing more than a “good job” in return and maybe someone will throw a few dollars here and there for your efforts

I believe that’s why some very talented people have not made tunes for anyone besides themselves

 

The main point behind locking a tune:

I make a tune with my reputation attached.
Its kind of reassuring someone can't mess it up. I feel kind of douchy doing it, but I feel a little "safer" maybe? This stuff is kinda scary. There's a lot of faith amongst us TW folk. In the same instance flashing a locked tune is probably even scarier IF you know what to look for, but cannot.... It's double edged.

 

It's also really shitty being exploited. Put in the time, the $, the wear and tear on the truck. All for someone in a better geographical location to make hundreds if not thousands off your work. I have flashed two trucks! And I had to drive 2 hours to get there. Other pricks out there have sold my work dozens of times over, because they live in a higher populis area. Some, such as yourself expressed their gratitude, others exploited. Sharing WAS the best part. I was all in on giving what I could to this community. I'm still here to offer help, just not to be taken for granted.

 

Yea advertising here in OH is a bitch. I’ve tuned one truck as well, but a local shop who bought my 1.8 file unlocked has been asking Tacoma owners if they wanted a tune.

Only reason I found out is because the wife took my truck for the final exhaust work there while I was at work. They tried to sell her my tune for the truck

 

Yea budget muffler was the last time I offered someone I saw who had a Tacoma the tune unlocked.

He had OV 2.0 which I’m sure he has sold without Matt’s knowledge, and now he’s got VR 1.8 unlocked.

I think you’ve been quiet through this whole thing.
But I still say that ol Chad here has one of the best tunes out there. His skill progression and his table making are unreal. He literally made his own torque tables and they aren’t half bad. Better than 2.0 for sure.

Torque tables are stupid. They're supposed to control shifting pressure but they do a lot more than that.
