Thanks for the review bud. Glad to hear your heavy truck felt good with the tune. Were you running the Heavy or Standard version?

I should go back and check out the heavy one. Totally forgot about that one.

I lost my place reading thru this somewhere in 60's pages... so I'll ask my questions and try to get caught up eventually.

    1. has anyone done much with the dump tube tunes?

    2. with the better tunes out there right now would 4:88's be okay with 33's or are 5:29's still the preferred gear?

    thanks

If you are doing a regear, I’d still recommend doing 5.29s in the AT

depends on your needs. If you are going 285 33’s I would recommend 5.29’s.

I run 4.88’s with (255) 32’s and it is cherry, but my freeway speed limit is 80mph. 5.29’s would be annoying at that speed since I’m turning 2500rpms with 4.88’s at that speed

33’s are most likely E-load and weigh a lot more plus they are wider which is more surface drag/friction/energy loss

I have dump tubes. No specific tune for them exactly.
I also recommend 5.29’s if you’re going to have any armor and go 285+ tire size.

    @Chadr7858 makes a solid 5.29 tune.
@TermLimits is making a solid tune
@PapaRee is making/ made solid tunes
@Mooseditty17 of course is the OG and is still making magic.

edit. @PapaRee is the only one making the CEL for dump tubes go away at the moment.

Stock – No tune (10/5-2/12) Exactly what you would expect. Searching for gears, slow response. Almost feels like a 4cyl. Drags a bit of ass.

04B81_Reg_Stock_Thx.vft (11/17-2/12) Substantial improvement, no more searching for gears. Holds gears longer than normal. Pleasant increase in PEP. Much smoother shifting. Avg. 16.5-16.8mpg

04B81_PapaRee_Reg-Kruiser-4.0.vft (2/12-3/25) Whoa! 1st real dose of something that feels like its straight out of the TRD workshop. Great feeling all along the power band. Tip-In very nice and responsive. Engine now has a hollow air sucking growl, almost V8-like. Plenty of passing power. Fairly smooth across the power band. @PapaRee

04B81_MD_WikiTaco.Ultimate_Daily.vft (3/25-4/9) What a nice driver. I thought I might lose my heavy Tip-In but I did not. Great power along the power band. When accelerating you feel like you are on the end of a kite string about to be whisked away, impressive. Only thing I noticed, and it could just be me, is that a few times I almost felt plateaued at 80mph and around 99mph but without the feeling of a governor in place, but with a hearty pedal push I can get some more out of her. Other than that, this has been a great, fun tune. @Mooseditty17

04B81_Reg-VR-2.0.2 Factory Airload (Standard) - wiki.vfc (4/9-Present) I’m a Heavy-on-the-pedal driver, I won’t pussy-foot and claim otherwise. Going into this tune I was expecting to be slightly disappointed on the Tip-In. I was not. Tip-In is mildly aggressive; it could be tuned down a tad for those who drive like its Sunday everyday or trying to juice out every mpg from the tank. That being said, I found it spunky enough to pull out into an intersection without fear of getting clipped. Much like all of these tunes, nice power along the power band. Prior to writing this, I put on about 200 miles. Roughly 144 of it was highway, and 100 of that in the rain, so I drove a bit slower than normal. I WAS however able to get around 60mi of dry pavement to give the pedal a bit of juice. While not as aggressive as some other tunes, this tune is still fairly impressive. It was not made as a straight Pedal Aggressive Tune, but it does a decent job holding its own. I noticed over 200mi an increase from 16.3mpg-16.8mpg, and based on what others have reported back, I would expect to see this continue to rise. @TermLimits

End of the week I'll be switching to the Valley Runner HEAVY. Sometime after that I am looking to try the latest KDMAXXX.

Nice breakdown. I've tried KDMX 6.0 and Ultimate_Daily and you're probably gonna be real happy with KDMAX. Your description of Ultimate_Daily is exactly what I like. It's a nice driver, tip in is there but not as aggressive as KDMAX LT, and has a nice power curve to it. It always delivers as much as I want/need. I have no complaints. Now if you're into power, throw your head back and smile kind of power, KDMAX might be more to your liking. I want my taco to drive like a truck, and Mooseditty's daily driver nailed it. Both are great tunes, no bad choice there.

Can you help clear this up for me? I just bought VFTuner w/o the tune pack. I can only flash community files or purchased files from others but cant view or edit them right? I can only edit my own after I read the my ECU. I have only licensed the software so far. I have not hooked up to the truck yet and was curious. Thanks!

Once you unlock your ecu, you can edit any tune for that ecu that has been provided to you in an unlocked format.

It's confusing at first. To edit a tune you have to unlock that ECU ID. Once you have that ECU ID unlocked you can edit it as much as you want.

Be sure to update your truck to the newest ECU ID before you use credits to unlock that ECU ID for editing.

You will also need to spend credits to unlock the VIN number for any trucks you want to flash. You can do this without unlocking the ECU ID for editing if you like.

In both cases, once unlocked they stay unlocked. You won't have to spend credit to unlock them again.

Once you have paid with credits to unlock an ECU ID you will be able to view and edit the stock files for that ECU ID and any unlocked tunes you come across. Some user tunes are locked and cannot be edited.

I am currently running the 04B81_MW_Cruise_Reg_Stock_v3_AFR and I still seem to have a decent amount of gear search in 1st through 3rd
