Follow pdf instructions from download for getting everything set up.
Check out my signature links for a decent starting point.
The tunepack is great and has a lot of professionally developed tunes by the man himself -- gives you all of the options for your ECU. You can build off of these to enhance a custom tune. It is not necessary to purchase that, but it sure is something!

The more throttle you give it, the longer it holds a shift. Wouldn't this be ideal? Lets talk about it.... :argue:

Why would this not work? It would certainly have a sensitive throttle, but nearly mechanical like output, no?

I've thought about this, but my guess is that as driving in traffic, every time you let your foot off the gas a little it's going to shift. So probably for at lease the first third of the shifting table you're just going to want your minimum speed set for that gear.

I don’t know about exactly these values but I agree you are onto something.

The taco shift schedules are too slow early in the pedal travel, and too fast late in the pedal travel. Thats why in the same truck you can have it feel like it won’t downshift at times, when other times you will get unwanted early downshifts.

First thing I did with vF was speed up the early part of the shift schedule. I am now working on slowing down the later part.

For example, cruising in 5th gear and need to pass, stock it was very difficult for me not to trigger a double downshift to 3rd and have the truck rocket forward. Not good in slippery conditions. Decreasing the 3-4 downshift schedule at 60-75 mph range is allowing me to grab 4th and control my rate of acceleration with the throttle instead of with the trans. Much safer.

For me it is becoming more and more predictable what gear the truck will be in at all speeds and pedal positions, making for a much more enjoyable experience.

I have 5.29’s,33’s,and Moose created a premium tune for me based on Mat’s premium,5.29 latest tune.I never get into 6th but none of my other shifts are below 3500rpms.If I am cruising in 5th which is over 60mph and I increase pedal pressure just a little it will downshift to 4th and takeoff and I can pass without another downshift.Truck is very powerful with Ect on and a pleasure to drive now. Mpg’s are down but I don’t care about that.Moose tuned it so that D is what my wife drives in—less tipin, etc.

Hey bud, I'm running about the same setup! Just got my 5.29 gears on Monday, so I actually had to nudge the tip-in down so it doesn't lurch so hard for the next week or two! I have yet to get into 6th grade either using my tweaked version of Moose's mild+wild, but I'm also trying not to go to fast for the first couple 100 miles. Might go tweak the 5th-6th upshift point a lil lower at low/medium throttle and see if that can force it. The extra torque is def noticeable.

If I get something I like, I'll send it your way. I assume you're on 04B04?

Nope.04A61....5.29’s make a huge difference. I had to drive 500mi for break in.

I am really liking xmd mild-wild 3.1 so far. It is settling in nicely after resetting all the learned values and driving several hundred miles. I have mostly just used drive without ECT and am also getting 20-21 MPG on average. It shifts at much higher RPMs if you are aggressive and shifts mildly when just driving normal just as the name implies. If you have not tried it yet, you are missing out. Thanks Mooseditty and PapaRee.

Good morning everyone. Just reading thru the posts and noticed all of you talking about the moosedigity time and was wondering if anyone had one for 04B31 with 4.88 and 33” tire. Looking for something different than the normal OVTune maps.
    Thanks for the support.

Who is near Sacramento and is experienced in tuning others?
I've got interested parties out there.
I'd be happy to take a referral reward or build out a tune for you to just slap on for them if needed.

I've been lurking on there VFT threads for a couple months and still somewhat lost. I like the idea of a tune but got some reserves, the common problems that seemed to trigger most into tuning I have not experienced with my '17 OR. I drive mostly 2 lane roads in the hills of the Appalachians and hilly 70mph highway driving on my commute and don't experience the gear hunting, I mean it drops from 6th to 4th to maintain 70 up a grade but its shaped like a brick so that's expected and it doesn't shift until it starts leveling off; it holds gears pretty well. I guess my concern is that if I did a tune and decided to go back to stock tune I'll end up with the hunting problems everyone has :deadhorse: here on TW. I guess I got one of the unicorns and don't want to mess it up. I've never done any tuning before and trying to follow the main VFT thread is like a foreign language.

I'm not really sure what I'm after in a tune. I guess just more felt power on back roads and a little less hesitation for highway passing. Some days she feels a little sluggish but here in the rust belt we are making the transition to the winter fuel so I think that is to be expected.

Do these tunes need to compensate for the fuel changes throughout the seasons?
Is this the best place to get info for VFT?
Is there a way to get Matt's instructions to read through before buying the VFT kit?
Do these tunes actually make the truck quicker or does it just feel like it? Proof?

    Thanks

Mooseditty17, what are your plans for this winter? I really like the mild and wild 3.1 tune, but it wasn’t exactly easy getting around today with it raining all day. It will get a lot worse when it starts snowing. I might drop back to the 2.0 final (base) if we start getting snow.

Do I understand correctly that you find even the ‘mild’ setting to be too reactive to throttle input if it is raining?
