Does anyone have any luck with mounting their viair compressor in their Tacoma? I like how the arb compressor can be mounted in the back of the bed so I want to go do that but I wouldn’t mind mounting the viair compressor in the engine bay if it’s easier to get done.

Plenty of people have disassembled Viairs and hard mounted them under the hood, you can mount them in the bed too, you'll just need to drill mounting holes as most mounts out there are patterned for ARB. Under the hood would be easiest as you won't need to extend the wiring.

If you go with Viair, I highly recommend the 400P with the automatic cutoff as you don't wanna fiddle around with turning it on and off every time you switch wheels or are not connected to anything as it'll just keep running and compressing air until it blows a seal or itself apart.

I mounted mine in front of the battery.
A sheet of diamond plate, used the same bolts which hold the battery tray down. Anchors for the straps attached to the diamond plate. Also have the weight of the battery on it.
Enough room on the driver side of the compressor for coiled up air hose.

do you have the cables that connect the battery coiled up on the side? Was kinda looking into wiring it to the battery but I don’t know what to do so it won’t be constantly running on the battery. For or like a switch

I've also got a 400p and it has an on/off switch on the side.

Just cut off the alligator clips, crimp on a donut fitting, and wire the positive side to the positive battery terminal and the negative to a body ground.

You could make it more complicated, and I'm sure there's an electrical genius on here that will explain why...but this is the same way I wired up my winch 4 years ago and no problems yet.

I installed a separate relay & fuse box, isolated from the truck's original electric system. So the compressor is wired to that, with a master switch inside the cab. I also installed an air manifold which has the pressure cutoff switch. The master can stay on and the pressure switch will turn off the compressor when it gets up to pressure.
But in reality I don't run with the master "on"; I only turn it on when I need the air for something.
I added an auxiliary air tank to act as an accumulator too.

(The separate relay/fuse box powers all of my added electrics, not just the compressor.)
edit: photos won't pull up right now. ??? will add later.

I have a 400 and considered mounting it but decided against it. I have used it for a number of years with my Frontier and decided with the Taco just to mount a 12v plug and wiring I had left over from a motorcycle project so I would not have to pop the hood or deal with bed power to air up. My power plug is zip tied below the TRD emblem and the main grill.

Ya, I know, I'm of no help.

    Good luck with your project.
