Vibes in the brake pedal intermittent at low speeds - ABS? Also, rearend whine...

#1 - So I have had ABS go off in other vehicles before so I am familiar with the feeling. My 2018 DCSB OR 4x4 has a "motorised" vibe feeling in the pedal at times where there is low speed (although sometimes at travel speed) and the roads are dry. It doesn't feel as "harsh" as the ABS I have felt before, but it is a new truck so they could be different. Also, I dont hear the audible ABS motor noise like other vehicles when it happens.

Being I took mine in today for the 3rd time and they state they cannot find anything wrong. But, to me, something is wrong since it does not happen all the time. Funny thing is, no one else can feel it at the dealer.

Anyone feel this ABS type vibe in theirs and had it taken care of at the dealer?

#2 - (more of just a gripe) Rear end whine - I know there have been tons of topics on this on the forums. It seems to be common that the Off-Road experience this issue. Mine will whine on a light accel or decel somewhere between 40-60 mph. I know how to get it to happen and my service manager heard it a little this morning. Although when talking about possible causes for whine he tried playing the "it could be road or tire noise" card. I've had trucks with Swampers before and also had trucks with a bad pinion bearing or gears not meshing correctly. Tire/Road noise is not the same. Waiting to hear from them, but being this is my third time in for these two issues I am not holding my breath....

I know there was a whine TSB for the 16/17's, but this is an 18 and I believe should have the parts equipped from the TSB..

Truck sits at 39xx miles currently...

Rear end whine TSB was extended to 2018 TRD double cabs recently. A copy of the updated TSB is on the forum somewhere. You should be good there!

Thanks, I'll find it. The first two techs and service writers couldn't even reproduce the rear end noise, but it is very apparent. The only other dealer in my area has horrible reviews for service.

My truck had the brake pedal "buzz" when it was new. It was bad enough to make me think it was a defect. But after a couple thousand miles I don't even notice it any more. I have about 4k miles on it now. I think it just kinda "broke in"
I'm guessing it has something to do with the brake booster being electric assist instead of vacuum.

Well I am glad to hear someone else experiences this so hopefully it is normal.. They state they dont feel anything in the pedal.

They are doing the TSB 0013-18 for the whine today. So we shall see.

Well the TSB is done and the whine is still present. So they are stating the Toyota rep should be in the area tomorrow and they will try to get them in to take a look.

#1 is probably the booster that the OR/Pro have on the brakes. Normal.

Toyota Rep is in today to drive my truck. I hope that vibe is only the booster. However, after doing the TSB for rear end whine, there is still a whine. The rep will decide if I get a new third member as they feel it is the pinion bearing....

The vibes are in the brake pedal, like a motorized vibration and slight push back. Hence why I thought it may be abs. You dont feel those vibes anywhere else in the truck except the pedal.

The rear end doesnt have any vibes, only whines around 50mph...

    It's the booster. Probably.

Took the truck in for the 5k service. Only have about 3500 miles. I told the guy I wanted to drive the mechanic around after the 5k service was completed to let him hear the whine in the rear of the truck that I have around 50 mph. I took him on the ride and he heard it. Told me he needed to take the truck back and look up some stuff in the computer.
Came back and said that he found the issue in his system and said "TSB 0013-18 describes this exact condition and repair procedure". They ordered the parts and will perform the fix next week.

    I will keep everyone posted.

You can check your VIN on the TSB page to see if it qualifies. They swapped mine even though it was too new and already had the parts installed. If the last 8 digits of your VIN is after #HXxxxxxx, then you already have those parts.

    Good luck though!

When the 19s come out I'm sure they will update the TSB again to include them.

Supposedly, any truck with a VIN later than what is included on the TSB already has the required parts installed. They stated that mine did, but they swapped them anyway.

I have my truck back. Still has a very slight whine. They stated a new one that came off the truck yesterday whines much worse, so it is a "trait" of these trucks. :(
