I just put on a 2 inch lift with Bilstein, coils, and 3 leaf. I now have what feels like a humming through the floorboard. It oscillates, hums for a second then goes away and repeats. Doesn't change much with speeds. goes away when I go into 4 hi. Also disappears after about 5 minutes of driving. Thought an alignment would fix it but no luck. What could this be?

Get underneath and grab the driver’s side inner cv joint where it goes into the front differential. Check for play. You will be surprised what you find. Hyper15125 is correct I believe. When I did this check on my daughters 2010 AC 4x4 the next thing I did was order a bushing from ECGS and a seal. Have never had a repeat for 3 years.

How hard is it to do the ECGS? Do I need special tools?

Not hard if you are a backyard mechanic type. And yes, you will need a bearing puller and something to push the new seal in. There is a great write up and video here in tacoma world that will answer all your questions. Plan on replacing some diff fluid as there will be some drained out why doing this. Did you try the play test yet? I will try and find the write up and get it to you.

You'll need the removal tool to get the old bearing out. I think I had borrowed it from @johnnym

Look for “front diff vibes ecgs bushing fix” in 2gen forums. The first post also has a link with a video I believe that will spell the process out for you. Many Taco owners on here have already did this so there is PLENTY of help if needed. There are some that have the tool made by ECGS and are willing to loan or sell to you for less than the cost. Just decide what you want to do and then, do some searching here. You will get all the info you need.

If it's the ECGS, would the vibration go away from driving? That's what confuses me.

EGCS stands for East Coast Gear Supply. They developed a bronze bushing to replace the front, drivers side cv needle bearing. If you havent done the slop/play test yet, you really need to. Once 4x4 is selected, the front diff driving the axles takes most of the play out because it is under a load.

Just did the play test and there is very little movement. Just enough to make a knock.

I'd say about 1/8" of play

Yeah. Mine let loose and I couldn't go over 30 mph, after the ecgs bushing install, it still vibrates till the oil warms up and gets thinned out, then my vibs go away.

I think that's all I need, the CV axle seal. He should have all the tools so $80 for the bushing and seal and $50 to install .that's not bad at all. I'll throw in a case of beer as well.

Make sure you don't replace the seal backwards like I did
