Hey guys, i recently went on a camping trip which required to go on a service road for about 15 mins.

It was mostly gravel, nothing too crazy at all. No mud. It felt fine, except wnen i was going back, i got on the highway on my way back. I got up to 100 km/hr and noticed vibration in my steering wheel.

Now, i know if there is mud and it sticks to your wheels/suspension it will cause vibration untill it clears out, happened to me before. This time it was just dusty, my truck was covered in dust.

I heard some rocks flying out of my tires on the highway when i got on it. The steering wheel was still vibrating. I thought the weights came off when i was off road.I pulled over, checked and no rocks in tires, weights seemed to be fine. I kept driving for about 15 mins and vibration went away.

My question is: can dust do that?? I mean i know ko2s are a bitch to balance sometimes but dont think dust will throw it out of balance. It drives fine now, no vibration, everything seems solid.

    What do you guys think?:notsure:

Check to see if you have missing balance weights

I'd just be happy it fixed itself and move on. My truck make so many creaks, pops, and vibrations it's ridiculous. I don't read too much into them if they fix themselves.

Im not worried at all, just curious what could ve caused that. Went actual offroading before and no vibration on highway afterwards.

I did, they seemed to be all there. The vibration stopped so im assuming all weights are there.

Yeah I dunno! I read the title and immediately thought it was mud in the wheels, until I clicked into the thread. Maybe just the rocks in the tread.

Missing wheel weight and or a rock wedged somewhere in a rotating assembly.

I mentioned in my post there were no rocks in tire threads and it still vibrated.

They all flew out when i unleashed the mighty 3.5!

Did you air down at all? My final shot in the dark is your tires were low on air, caused some vibes but as you drove and the tires heated up (causing air pressure to increase) it smoothed out. Again, not even sure if that's a thing but brainstorming here.

Mine have stick on and the old school weights. Same as on my previous trucks duratracks. They are a bitch to balance too.

Nope, did not air down. It was just a service gravel road. Civic would ve done it no problems.

Were you in 4x4 on gravel & switch to 4x2 on pavement? I know on other trucks with auto hubs sometimes only one hub will unlock and cause vibration until the other one unlocks. New to tacomas so not sure how the system works, but something I have seen on others.

Thats a good point. Never heard that one before.

I switched to 2hi when i was still on gravel, couple minutes before going on tarmac. Its a sharp left turn to get on the highway so i didnt want to bind my axles.
