Every so often when I come to a complete stop at a light or I'm just starting up the truck I get this slight vibration with a corresponding rattle. Feels like it's in front of my feet and a bit to the left. Once I start moving the noise/vibration stops. It's so infrequent though that I haven't been able to record it on video, and it doesn't even happen every day.

I took it to my mechanic and he wasn't able to get the noise/vibration and he even jacked it up to take a look around. Nothing was apparent.

Any ideas? The rattling isn't high pitched, doesn't 'ping', it honestly sounded like a raccoon was trying to burrow in my engine bay the first time I heard/felt it.

Would be interested in what you learn.

How long have you had it? Any inclinations or even ideas what could be causing it?

Still trying to narrow down any variables when it happens. Going to attempt to record audio of it asap.

My first thoughts were possibly a motor mount but I really don't know

If your at a stop and it happens, does it feel like a rough idle (vibration?)which seems to create rattles?

I have something "bbbbrrrbrbbrbbbrbb'ing" (like that? :D) at an idle occasionally. Comes in and out and may last 5 seconds or a few times or entire time at stop light. Some poeple mentioned hydraulic fan but I think it's my exhaust hitting a certain vibration level. I do have trd exhaust that was bolted on in place of stock. It has not always done this, and may work it's way out. Kind of like I am hoping the squeaks in my right rear AAL will eventually go away from use.

hah, bbbbrrbrbrbrbr....sure something like that. I grabbed a video with some decent audio and I'll put it up later today.
What RPM do you guys idle at? I'm generally as low as 600-900rpm, seems very low. I've only had the truck for a few weeks so this is all new to me.

hope this thread could come back to life. my 06 with 120,000 is getting the same vibration.. i was having power issues ( radio died, windows slow, lights dimming) and my volt meter proved my alernator wasnt working. so i replaced the alternator ( did both rear axle seals too while i had it jacked up and rear brakes) and now when i come to a stop in gear the truck idles to 500-600 rpms and the exhaust shakes like the mother funker. did a diagnostic check and not one dam code came up. i have yet to drive it more than 3 miles so im gonna drive it the next to days to see if my computer needs to re-learn it self straight.... anyone else figure something with this issue?

I have the same issue. I have 07 4x4 DC with 83k. But when I'm at a stop I can see my rpm's go from 6-700 down to 400-450. On occasion it's almost like my transmission grabs suddenly and will nudge forward slightly even with my foot on the brake lightly. It only does the transmission grab once at a light but the rpm drop continues. I don't feel it as bad in neutral but i can see the rpm's drop a little bit. Might be the same issue and ideas?

I may have the same thing on my 07 with 80K miles. Noticed it a couple times lately first starting in the morning. Mine sounds like some debris is stuck and hitting the fan blades or a belt that is frayed and flapping around. But I don't see any of that. I thought maybe a squirrel was under there (relatively common in this area) and met his maker the first time.

After I get going I don't hear it, so I am wondering if the cool temps are a factor.

Haven't had time to investigate much further yet.

oldstick, your description pretty much nailed what it sounds like (and feels like) to me as well.

I still haven't been able to pinpoint what the hell is going on there.

I have never tried with the ac on but it doesn't matter with heat or off completely.

I've had it with A/C on and off, I've tried with the brake engaged and disengaged, haven't attempted the defroster though.

my truck does that as well. sounds like it's coming from behind the dash, right? i too have an 07. only happens when im alone in my truck (of course). started pretty quickly after buying it. hasnt effected my truck in any way, so im not too worried about it. but i would be curious to know what the hell it is.

There was a Tsb for a dash rattle behind the glove box I think. I had a similar rattle at idle especially when the engine was cold in the am. Dealer said it was an exhaust leak and tightened it up. So far it's gone.

I too have had those noises since I bought the truck new in 2008. Now at 35k miles I still here it intermittently.

I have a 06 DC 4x4 and it does the same noise. When I bought it at 123,000 it did it. My Bro inlaw said it might be the dash rattlen. I thought at one time it was the motor mount . Mine does it when I go to take off . I have 305's so it struggles to take off and it does it and when I idle some times to.

Do you happen to know what bolts they tightened? I noticed the other day there is a faint vibration that does remind me of when there is an exhaust pipe rattle. I can really only hear it with the doors closed and windows up coming from behind the firewall area somewhere.
