Finally took my taco into the dealer. It's got two big problems 1) the vibration 2) there is a dragging feeling.

The vibration is straight up TSB related and they are replacing the transmission mount for $250.

The drag... the problem is it feels very heavy in the front end. Like when the axle hubs are locked on a full size, you get this heaving pushing feeling. The steering gets heavy and you (at least I) can tell the hubs are locked because it feels like, well, you're pushing a headwind. The taco feels exactly the same- like the front axle is just dragging the whole truck down. It's constant at every speed and it's gotten so bad my wife can tell there is something wrong. I can feel it normal driving, coasting, hell I can even feel it at speed if I'm in neutral.

Nothing rubbing, nothing pulling, brakes are fine, no throbbing stops (except ABS of course) and I've taken it to one other mechanic. Basically it makes no sense to me unless something is binding the in the front. It's even heavy in the steering wheel now- like sometimes it just feels like the wheel is locked and it takes significant effort to veer off straight. This only happens going straight, and may not actually be related.

In any case the dealership's brilliant solution to all this? Replace the rear springs. At the super discount price of $2,500 I can get all new springs to replace the ones Toyota keeps sending me letters suggesting they will recall- but right now I could have new completely stock springs that solve all my problems forever for just $2,500. Sounds like a deal, eh?

The other thing is a few minor gasket leaks to the tune of another $2,000. Yeah, not doing that either. Hopefully the transmission mount will solve some of the vibration, but the other stuff? Youch.
