hi to everyone on the site, i been on this site daily learning what i can about my recently purchased tacoma. thanks to the site for guiding me in the right direction when i had a "thump" when accelerating and when coming to a stop. after lubricating slip joint that annoying thump is gone.

i have another issue with the truck that i could not find a definite answer to after searching. when driving 65mph there is a vibration through the truck that can be felt in the cab the pedal and in the steering wheel, not a shimmy or shake side to side in the wheel but just a vibration that can be felt. when driving around i noticed this same vibration was happening at lower speeds and noticed it happens in the 1.600 to 2.200 rpm range, and when doing 65 mph thats exactly where rpm is (2,000rpm). honestly to me it feels like a engine mount, but i would think that the mount would vibrate all the time when putting a load on the truck during accelerating. all the mounts look ok to me.

so after looking over the truck i cannot find anything worn, hopefully someone could help me out.

i greased all the u joints 1,000 miles ago.. do you know if the center bearing is faulty or is this like "characteristic of vehicle". i can move the driveshaft up/down in the center bearing(carrier) but i think that is normal movement.

a faulty bearing would have give you heavy vibration (like a unbalance drive shaft) and noise. i pretty sure that a characteristic of the vehicle like the clinking noise frome the fuel injector

In that case... I'm going to stack some washers to change the angle of the bearing. If it fixes or helps the vibration, I will let you know. It's may take 15 min total.

That SB keeps referring to vibrations between 15-25 mph. But I do think a part on that bulletin may be causing this. That bulletin tells me these trucks have a lot of various parts that cause vibrations. Technically only one part should fix a problem. It's rare 2 parts are faulty, of course it happens though.

I finally got around to remove my rear driveshaft and drove around to see if it was the problem. Vibration was still there.
I noticed in a TSB the rear trans mount was being replaced for vibrations. Has anyone has one of these cause problems without any visual tearing?

I know this is an old Post. But ive been dealing with this same issue in a 2011 with 70k. Driving me nuts. It makes me hate driving the truck because its all I can focus on. Ive never driven any other vehicle that has this much annoying engine vibration that you can actually even hear. 17-2200 rpms. In any gear, under load. Felt everywhere, steering wheel, seat, pedals, doors, I just don't even know where to look... Dealer wants to say its normal.. It just cant be. The nature of the vibe just doesn't seem like it could be normal. It will get waves to it sometimes too. I cant seem to duplicate this particular vibe unless in gear under load though. But, I do have even more vibes at 3000 rpms. Right at 3 in comes in strong, then disappears til around 3500 then kicks back in.. then fades and comes back in again at 4k. And this one is present in neutral, or park. Makes me not want to get over 3k. I don't even know where to look. Ive spent a good deal of money on stuff already trying to find it. Nothing yet. not even a slight improvement.. And it seems to be getting slowly worse. Has anyway found a fix? and some ideas of what to even look for? Keep in mind, it is not possible for this to be U joint, driveshaft, carrier bearing related. because those would all be speed related issues.. This only responds to rpms.. Change rpms at same speed and load, vibe changes. thanks

Its not that rough. I replaced plugs and cleaned stuff not long ago.. Its not actually running rough.. Doesn't feel anything like a misfire. Just seems like something is out of balance or something. Its never been scanned. No codes.

Seems like its gotten worse over time. First noticed it about a year ago. Drove it almost a year before I really started noticing it... Now its all I notice and all I can pay attention to the whole time I'm driving.

I got it; toyota blamed it on the small lift I got. I didn't have it the last 64k miles and it suddenly just showed up, so I know something is worn. Got my tires balanced, alignment redone. Still got the vibes like yours, Regreasing the u-joints helped but didn't make it go away. I grease mine every 5000 miles. Funny thing was the toyota service advisor told me that I am over-greasing thus why I got the vibes. Such a lie; I told him toyota recommends every 5000 miles so how am I re-greasing too much? That shut him up but still they refuse to do anything. Marked it off as normal.

F' Toyota dealers and this bull, I'm going with a one piece driveshaft and calling it good. Waste of my freaking money for the extended warranty.

I don't think this vibe I'm fighting has anything to do with the driveshaft.. but I don't know. I haven't actually pulled it and drove around in 4wd.. But it just doesn't really make sense for it to be shaft related... Being that I can be going 60 mph in 4th slight uphill.. no vibe.. Shift into 5th, so rpms drop to around 18-1900.. Full vibe. ... back to 4th, no vibe. Nothing is changing at the dive shaft. so why does the vibe change? its only rpm related

yes ive done that.. And yes, it goes away... But to me, that's because of the rpm change. I cant get it to stay out of lock up or whatever long enough to see if it does it otherwise.. Like slow down a little to where when I hit the brakes the rpm change goes into the Vibe zone. Ive noticed you have to be going 45+ also to get it to operate as well. Ive done a LOT of experimenting back and forth and all over the place with it

It doesn't feel at all like a misfire to me.. Ive delt with misfires in V8 chevys before. Seemed more violent.. but I dunno. And ive kinda done this multiple times, And its just inconclusive to me. Wouldn't it throw a code or something of the sort and be indicated on the dash?

Oh you aren't wasting my time. I'm happy for everything I can get. Ive read several threads on stuff similar to this.. and they all seem to just dead end with no fix. , But like you said, hard to diagnose what one persons issue is or what they are feeling over the internet. Ive been to a shop. He could feel/hear it. But couldn't verify it was a trans issue, So didn't want me wasting money on something he couldn't guarantee would fix it. (but he was also more of a domestic trans shop. Dealer tried to say normal or driveshaft and wanted to pull the shaft and check balance. (this vibe doesn't make sense to be a shaft issue) There is definite drone/hum when it kicks in. To me it seems very much trans/converter related... But I really don't know. I just know the engine doesn't seem to do it all without load in neutral.. But it also blows through the range too fast to tell. I Was messin with it earlier.. I notice in 4th gear, the lockup doesn't occur until you hit 45 mph, which is exactly 2000 rpm. And RPM change is very minimal, like less than 100 rpm. I cant seem to really duplicate it much while getting up to 45 even if I load it pretty good starting at 20 mph. But rpms just kinda go up to about 1800 to 2000 and stay there while my speed increases. Once I get up to speed of 45 if I let off just enough to let it lock up, but also load it just enough that it still stays locked... Its like a Switch going off. immediate vibe. Vibe is the worse at actually about 1800, but you cant get that low in 4th locked. in 5th its right about 58-65 mph. Brake tapping causes a little bit more Rpm change in and out of lockup in 5th, so its tricky to get in the right spot. But I get vibe between around 1750 up to just over 2000. As you get to 2000 and start getting above.. its like VVVVV, (pause), VVVVV VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV VVVV. pause. VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV. pause then it goes away as rpms get any higher. Like its in and out. 1800 is constant. imagine a vibrating phone, that's the kinda vibration I'm getting. So far ive changed the plugs hoping it might help. Done two drain and fills. Added shudder stop the first drain and fill. Changed the Transmission mount. Now I'm to the point of digging deeper.

The sound is like small rumble strips or very course pavement. I read a lot about rumble strips.. But I don't really know how violent most are describing... Again, the internet thing... The rumble strips around here are pretty rough... If they were maybe half as big as they are... Then it would be more comparable.
