Hello, I have a 2013 Tacoma and I’m getting vibrations only at 40mph. I took it to the shop and couldn’t figure out why it’s shaking. My rear tires were worn on the outsides so I decided to start there and get new tires. I got new tires and still have the vibration. The wheels have been balanced and they did an alignment. Has anyone had this problem and found a solution? TIA

You didn't say how many miles on your rig, but I'm dealing with same issue. If it goes away when you switch to 4wd, it's probably the needle bearing on the driver's side of the front diff. I'm just gonna deal with it till spring...too cold to change it out now lol.

Yeah just get up to speed (in a straightaway) and click it into 4wd. It will be undeniable if that's the problem. I see that ECGS makes a bushing to replace it. Do a search for 'ECGS bushing'. Lots of info on here about it.

Auto or manual? Is the whole vehicle shaking or just front end?

Auto. It seems to just be the front end and in the steering wheel

Sounds like a bad needle bearing

So I don’t have a 4x4 and someone told me my truck doesn’t have the ECGS clamshell bushing but when I’m in drive and push it over to the 4th gear it goes away

You are shifting it into S4 where you're limiting the top gear the transmission can go into. If it goes away when you do that then don't quote me but I think thats a sign of torque converter shudder. If the truck is 2WD then you do not have the front needle bearing

If thats the case then it's most likely torque converter shudder. I had the same issue and when shifted in 4th it would go away. I replaced the converter and the problem is gone.

I recently went through this same scenario. Front end was shaking. Getting vibration from the front between 30-40 mph. Everything went away as soon as you put it in 4wd.

Needle bearing was bad. Replaced with ECGS bushing and all is back to normal

The problem with these toyota converters is the flex lockup. The clutch surfaces glaze over and shudders like crazy similar to a glazed flywheel surface in a manual transmission vehicle when you release the clutch pedal and vehicle shakes. There are some remedies like Lubegard Instant Shudder fix which does work but it's a temporary fix as the problem will eventually come back unless the converter is replaced.
