I am so damn disappointed in Toyota. I originally posted this a few years back on my 2010. After lots of repairs (totaling $30k) I ended up trading it in for a 2011. Luckily that issue didn't follow me to my current truck (although I am dealing with the brakes going "clink" when I apply them). But it is very sad to hear that so many more are experiencing this issue - even in the 2014. Because of this, in 3 years when I purchase another truck, I may have to switch to Ford.

I have a 2011 Tacoma V6 Prerunner and began noticing the same humming noise/vibration in gas pedal that others have mentioned in this thread. I hear/feel it between 60-72 mph. When I let off the gas, it feels as though I'm braking slowly (similar to turning off overdrive) and humming will remain between these speeds. I purchased truck new and have 123k miles on it. It only started within the last couple thousand miles. It is very annoying since I normally cruise at these speeds. I have 125k warranty and hope to take it to dealership for resolution. I'll post back once I find out what they have to say.

I am planning to pull my main driveshaft this week and run it on front shaft.
This should either eliminate of confirm the 2piece shaft as the source. I'll let you all know :)

Replacing driver side wheel bearings and hub. Get it back tomorrow. We'll see.

Sure enough, replacing the left front wheel hub and bearing assembly resolved my issue. I was almost certain this issue was much more extensive and involved the powertrain.

Great to know you got your issue solved! My tire dealer did me a solid and replaced two tires with some cupping, did a meticulous balance and alignment, for a great price. Alas, the sound is not in my tires.

I have since found many posts on a 4runner site with the same issue/complaint and almost all have been do to the inner seal failing on the front wheel bearing and then the bearing getting rough. Usually around 110K (mine had 189K so I don't begrudge it few bearings). I can hear the grumble start around 30 and at 60 it is a pronounced, albeit low frequency, grumble. Most wheel bearings I have ever had fail gave much different symptoms but Ive never encountered a failure on the moderns style sealed bearings with CV axles running through them so learning a bit here..

I am sure that wheel bearing are my issue so I ordered new seals and bearings (they require pressing onto the hub) and I will replace them next week. And of course report back.

I started to notice the vibration at 65 mph last month. Brought my 13 DCLB with a 1.5" lift in to the dealer to check it out. I took the shop foreman for a test ride and he agreed on the vibration. They used shop wheels and and the vibe was still there. They replaced the front right wheel bearing. The vibe was still there. Today they removed the drive shaft and drove it on the highway in 4 wheel drive mode and the vibration disappeared. They are blaming that the articulation/angle of the lift is causing vibration on the carrier bearing. So, they flipped the carrier bearing around and the vibration changed to 50 mph, but they need to do more high speed testing tomorrow. Odd, how I did the lift a year ago and now it's starting to vibrate. If they can't fix it, I'm on my own and they are not charging me a dime. Shop foreman said it's a good learning experience for them too.

Is it a strong vibration that you can feel? or is it just something you can hear and perceive as a vibration? Check your heat shields underneath or any other loose metals. The mph may not be the issue; it may be the rpms which vibrate at a certain frequency and cause loose pieces to rattle or scrape against other attached metals.

I thought I reported this before now, but I changed out the axle bearings on both sides and the replace the carrier needle bearing with a nitro gear bushing on drivers side.

Quiet as the day I bought it!!!

I almost removed the driveshaft too on mine but when I found out that the noise often goes away in 4wd if it's the bearing, AND I was pretty certain the noise was coming from the front. I went with the bearings first. Glad I did. Based on the number of people who have this vibration and issue on lifted trucks, (sometimes after just a few thousand miles), it's certainly worth looking into.

The dealer replaced my drive shaft and the vibration went away. They could not figure out what was wrong with the old drive shaft. Now at 25-40 mph I can hear wheel or tire noise humming oscillating with speed. I have to take it in again. ugh.

06 Access Pre, 2WD. Perfect for 99K miles. Rims since 67K. No issues. At 99k plus, vibration started at 15 to 25mph and has since gravitated to 55 - 65. Does not happen in corners.. Rotated Wheels, Balanced, changed all 3 U joints. There are probably 1/2 a dozen "threads" on TacoWrld regarding this and no one has had it go away. Understand some of the newer models do it out of the box. Next up check the mounts and wheel berings. I'll keep you posted.

I have a 2011 Tacoma and I noticed the hum or vibration sound and it seemed that air is making it's way into the cabin near the rear view mirror/windshield. My passenger says it's coming from somewhere else.

I have this exact problem as well. Toyota dealer thinks wheel bearing...they are new. I agree with you that's its drive line. Either that trans tail shaft bushing or axial play in the new Moog u joints. Meaning there is a small amount of space between the u joint spring clips. Have you replaced u joints? Feels like drive shaft is out of balance, but only @ 60-65 mph
