I have this annoying hum type vibration on my 2011 4.0 Automatic that I would really like to figure out. It is what I hate most about driving this truck. at around 1800 rpms the whole truck begins to kinda hum or buzz, and will do so noticeably til around 2100. I think it still does it higher, just the frequency is high enough I don't notice it. I feel it in the steering wheel, in the pedals, on the floor. Its like a VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV. Or like if you hum and blow out your mouth at the same time like a gazoo. Or comparable to a medium bass note being held and rockin the sub. It does it in all gears, but especially noticeable in 5th, being the most load on the engine. It only does it when the engine is loaded, as soon as you let off the throttle, it immediately stops and is smooth as can be. Get back on the throttle and it starts again, its quite annoying. I can hear/feel it over the radio. I also seem to have some occasional noticeable vibration at idle in gear. Has anyone ever dealt with or had something similar?

Ok, I would look closely at engine mounts and trans mount.

Low miles , I would still look to see if anything on motor or trans is touching frame or body. Exhaust can do weird stuff if it gets hit. Hope you find it.

from what I can tell all mounts and exhaust look fine. The fact that it only does it under load is weird to me. And its rpm+load sensitive, not speed sensitive. Also, it seems to have vibration if you rev it past about 2800 at idle. Smooth until you hit right about 2800 and you feel a vibe kick in. Its weird. I need to find someone with another truck so I can compare whats normal and what aint.

does turning tires to black wall out count? How bout added snug top rebel.
Is it 4x4, and if it is have you looked up the ECGS front differential fix? I think the test for that is if the sound goes away in four wheel drive.

Do you have four wheel drive? If so check out this thread, sounds like your symptoms.

Mine I think does the same thing. 52k on it. Just drove 3+ hrs with cruise at about 73 mph. I notice when it settles in at about 18-1900 rpm I get a hum...more felt than heard. Can feel it in floor, under my elbow when placed on the center console box lid, steering wheel. I've just chalked it up to normal.

I also am experiencing a vibration around these rpms. Im at 247k though and didnt notice it till around 10k ago. Everything is stock on my truck and no lift. Already did all u joints carrier bearing and replaced front diff bearing with ecgs bushing around 30k ago. Rear leafs done 15k ago. Never had vibe till recently and just did WS flush on tranny. Nothing changed after flush and doesnt seem trans related. My only guess is motor/trans mounts since sometimes at start up the engine will feel vibrate excessively during final cranks making me think the engine mounts are allowing too much movement. If i replace them ill let you know how it goes.

Recently greased, and though they would be load sensitive it makes sense they would be speed sensitive, Not rpm sensitive.

Sounds like the notorious Tacoma vibration that happens at highway speeds. I have the same problem at 25-30 MPH and 70-75 MPH.

I've been told by mechanics that it could be caused by the following:
    • Unbalanced wheel/tires
    • Bad tires
    • Unbalanced driveshaft

    Other possible causes:
    • U-Joints
    • Carrier bearings
    • Transmission bushing mounts
    • Motor mounts

I haven't noticed at what RPM's my vibrations start

It would be nice to get rid of the damned vibrations.

It's the center carrier bearing. Had this exact same issue with mine. The tell-tale was it only did it when on the throttle. Replaced the U joints while I had the drive shaft apart and a new carrier bearing and the vibration is gone. Poof.

    Cheap and easy DIY fix.

I'm thinking it might be normal. I find it hard to believe it's the center carrier bearing or U joints, those change with speed, not engine rpms. My truck has 39k miles on it, theres no way either are bad yet. I bought it with 24k miles, and I want to say it did it then too, but I'm not sure.
