I just updated the stock suspension on my 2nd gen regular cab with 5100s and 3rd gen coils and leaf packs. I got about 1.5 inches of lift in the front. After installation I initially had the infamous vibration/growl between 35-45mph. Then I installed the ECGS bushing which got rid of the vibration and now I have the same noise although significantly less between 55-60mph. Noise goes away when I put it in neutral and coast at that speed. What else could be going on here? Do I have a bad CV axle? Everything looks fine no leaking grease or gear oil.

Anyone else experience vibration after ECGS bushing?

What happens when you put it in 4wd and drive it?

In 2WD - in gear or in neutral the CV axles are still spinning the same. So if it goes away in neutral and while coasting at the same speed then I would be more inclined to think its a separate issue than the needle bearing.

hey thanks for the reply, I put it in 4 wheel drive the other day and feel like the noise was still there but not as pronounced (I need to find a better straight road to test it again). I’m also confused as to why the noise goes away in neutral, because if it were the bushing it should still make the noise.

I know for sure that I did not have the noise at 55mph before the bushing. I only had the vibration/growl at 35-45 but that went away with the ecgs bushing.

any other ideas on what could cause this? Bushing is fine, seal is fine, no oil leaks out of the differential and no grease coming out of the axle.

Just for clarification, when driving at vibration speeds and you shift into 4HI, do the vibes stop? This is usually the tried and true method of diagnosing the vibes as needle bearing. Also, did you do the ECGS bushing yourself or have a shop do it? If you do this test and vibes go away in 4HI, fingers point towards your shop not actually installing it and saying they did. If vibes persist in 4HI at speed, then look elsewhere. I'd start with simple and work your way up; grease your driveshaft.

I need to find a better straight road and test in 4x4 but when I did that the other day I feel like the noise was still there but not as pronounced.

I did the bushing myself. Already went and greased the driveshaft and angles look fine to the naked eye. Was thinking about taking it to a driveline specialist and having them check the angles.

it’s strange because prior to the bushing, I did have a very pronounced vibration/growl between 35-45mph that went away in 4wd, but had no noise at 55mph.

Well considering you did the bushing install yourself, its probably safe to say thats not your issue. Next thing I'd point to would be driveline angles, possibly needing a shim to correct. I'm no expert, so I don't really know the in's and out's of how to measure before/after angle, but either way, I'd say the eyeball test isn't sufficient to test that.

yea I agree. The fact that it goes away in neutral makes me also think that it’s not the bushing.

Did you ever figure this out? I have the same issue.

lol man I miss that truck so much. Had a baby and needed a rear seat though.

I checked everything though and could never pinpoint the exact source of the noise. Maybe it was just a resonance thing or differential howl that was amplified by lifting the truck. I put another 15k miles on the truck and it never got better or worse.IMG_0414.jpg

Nice truck! Yeah mine hasn’t gotten worse or better either way… just annoying. My 2018 never made any noises. This one has all kinds. Same exact truck different year
