    Hey forum,

I own a 2006 Toyota Tacoma, 4 cylinder standard (American Truck)
Lately, I've noticed a vibration shortly after I've been driving, doesn't appear to be any one location but rather right through the vehicle
Had the gear oil changed in the rear diff approx. 2 years ago but thinking maybe it's a universal joint?
Michelin LTX tires are getting close to the end but not down to the wear bars, and the truck is driving true (no alignment issues to speak of)
Has anyone else had similar issues?

    Tks, Tim

Does it have a carrier bearing?
    It supports the drive shaft

If you're 4WD you'll have greasable joints under there; if not, they're probably the permanently lubed ones. If they're factory it's definitely time to look. Check them for play in any direction. Yank 'em up and down, side to side. Any play is bad. Rust dust from bad seals is bad. Also Like Lalo said, if you're driving an access cab, look at the center bearing on the driveshaft and see if the rubber is torn up.

FWIW I had all my U-joints and the driveshaft center support bearing replaced with Spicer parts (OEM), the driveshaft balanced and painted for under $200, parts and labor, at a driveshaft shop. Toyota dealer wanted upwards of $225 just for the bearing and $80 for each u-joint, but they didn't even want to change them (they'd rather sell a new thousand dollar driveshaft), so if you got a bad joint, it pays to shop around.

Yea i just replaced the carrier bearing pretty easy job just need an impact driver and badic tools. The vibration was pretty bad on mine. When accelerating and decelerating, the steering would even shake(dont know why since the steering wheel has nothing to do with that). Anyways it hasnt vibrated since.
