I really don't think tires matter. Sure they hide the vibration and noise...but its really still there.

I wonder how this vibration compares to the vibration on some 4WD Tacomas that is related to the front differential bearing.

I've thought the same thing, the problem is both 2wd and 4x4 are experiencing the vibration.

I wonder if the vibration is tha same in both 2WD and 4WD? Also seems that the 4WD vibration is related to the front differential and it goes away when the truck is shifted to 4WD. Once the front diff. bearing is replaced the vibration goes away.

OP stated earlier that he has heard of it on 5spd and 6spd trucks as well. I'm leaning towards agreeing with you that it sounds like its lugging. The autos in these trucks love to get into OD and lug along

To top all of this off, I had a rental from Toyota (Corolla). It took damage in the very large (baseball size) hail that the DFW area had lastnight. Now I am responsible for the damage, but the dealership has my truck on the lift and can't verify whether I have damage or not (since the same storm hit the dealership too).

I missed that the manuals are having the same. If it was the engine lugging, I would think it would happen at a different speed with the manuals, seeing as how the gearing would be different.

I wonder if its exactly the same? My 06 4cyl with the 5 speed manual had a vibration issue too around 40 mph, but its was only on deacceleration... definitely not the same problem.

What??? That sucks man! I guess they are being nice enough to you, it would be hard to throw it in their face.

At the same time, if your truck is damaged, they are responsible for it. Maybe they will swap you and let you claim the vehicle with the lesser damage.

Ya I really have no idea other than maybe the rear diff. All I know is that it is not getting worse with time, and I hardly even notice it as it is, therefore I will not worry about it. Like I said earlier I think these trucks are just more prone to vibes to due the light body and frame sitting on a more robust driveline and suspension.

ok. as for the lemon law. If you take your vehicle 3 times for the same problem, they have to give you the buy back option. If they put the truck back to stock condition and the problem still remains, the obviously it's not the lift affacting it. so if it's been the 3rd time you gone back and you're still withing your warranty everything should be good and they have to buy it back.

In 05 I bought a new 4cyl 4x4 extracab and my brother in law bought a V6 6 speed extracab. Another friend has another truck like my brother in law's but an 07. None of those trucks had the problem (all bone stock) and 2 of them were north of 100k. Last December I sold my 4 cyl and bought a bone stock double cab short bed 4x4 with an automatic and 113k. It vibrates from 55-62 or so. At first I thought it went away when I dropped it into 4th. But if you slowly accelerate in in 4th it does it. From what I have found researching this I think all 4.0/auto trucks in this wheelbase do it and some just don't notice it. My wife doesn't notice it at all when she drives it. It's really minor. My truck has 125k on it now and after researching and messing with it a few times I gave up. I'm pretty convinced it's the driveshaft as some guys have gone to single piece shafts to cure it. But knowing it's an issue with so many of them combined with the fact it's so minor has me thinking it's not worth pursuing any futher. To me it's not worth the money for a driveshaft to experiment.

Interesting observation today , my truck seems to only produce this vibration @ about 45 MPH in D when the revs are at 1500 or lower , which leads back to my initial thoughts that to me it is a lugging tranny with some kind of associated sympathetic vibration .

At the same speeds with a higher rev count in 4th or D , I don't seem to get the vibe .

Just my observations on my particular truck though .

    All,

Went to the dealership to pickup my truck. Spent $720 on new tires as well. Sat and talked with the rental department about insurance and apparently I am responsible for both (hail damage on the rental while at my home, and hail damage to my truck while it was at the dealership). Sat and talked with the service manager (who I do really like) and he said he personally drove it and said the vibration was gone.

    Guess what?

STILL A VIBRATION....and almost more noticeable than before. It now extends between 55-62mph, but anything before and after those speeds it is just fine!

Now it's time to speak with Toyota directly. Who exactly do I contact?
