There is a TSB (0171-16) that addresses this exact symptom while decelerating that calls for shimming and replacing leaf springs to correct driveline angles, but after visiting my local service department and discussing the TSB with the manager, I learned I was dealing with something completely different.

I wanted to post something to help anyone with the same vibrations I was having as to avoid chasing it for too long.

I have a 2016 TRD OR, lifted with 2.5 King OEM mid-travels and an AAL in the rear. I had the “rumble strip” vibration thing going on pretty bad. You could feel it in every seat and pretty bad in the brake pedal and driver floor.

Took a ride with a tech at Toyota and he said it felt like warped drums to him. I thought "Oh, great. This guy doesn't have a clue."

They kept my truck overnight and ordered new drums to install under warranty < 36K.

I thought for sure they were just treating a symptom and that the problem would persist. Because I have modified my truck to the extent that I have, I thought for sure this would be an issue with "driveline angles" as mentioned in the TSB. I went along with them anyway. Why fight it when they were willing to do work under warranty?

They asked me who I had work on my brakes and they seemed very surprised when I told them no one had touched my brakes.

They said the drums were way over-tightened and that it must have been done at the factory. They owned it.

The work order described considerable warping in the drums as well as the rotors. They turned the rotors as well. My truck only has 32,000 miles on it.

So far, so good. The truck stops with no vibrations.

Will it prove to be a fix and the vibrations not return? We’ll have to see, but for now it’s all good.

If you are experiencing this, have them inspect your brakes!

@Taco Luvr I think I am experiencing the same issue. Almost feels like a grinding/rumbling in the brake pedal when stopping, as if brakes are having trouble engaging? Thanks for your time. Nate

I didn't have so much the grinding issue, but definitely a rumble.

Yes TL, grinding was the wrong way to describe it.... more of a rumbling as well! Replacing the rotors as we speak.... hopefully problem solved! Thanks for your reply:thumbsup: Nate

Been noticing rumble in the 30-10 mph range for a bit now during deceleration, was going to bring it up at my 10K service (I'm at 6K right now). However, I now noticed a rumbling when braking as well anywhere in the range of 10-30 mph. It isn't consistent, wondering if I am just feeling the rumble strictly under decerlation. Also having brake pedal issues, which I've posted about. Will see if I can make it to my 10K without anything changing/becoming unbearable.

I just put a lift on with new tires and get fairly extreme rumble strip vibrations in the 10-25 mph range, especially when decelerating. Switching to 4Hi had no effect, so I don't think it's the needle bearing. Was thinking driveline angle, especially since I have a 4" lift. I'm going to start with the lift installer.
