My 2wd truck has a vibration starting at 45 miles an hour. At 55mph it vibrates the rear view mirror so much I can't see behind me. I just purchased a new set of Toyo eclipse tires from a shop and started noticing this issue. I went back to have the tire shop re balanced the tires again. But still notice the same problem. I am thinking on going with another tire like Yokohama all terrains. Do you think I am headed in the right direction. Or should I be looking some ware else for this issue. :frusty:

I am running the factory steel wheels and the lug nuts are torqued correctly. I only have just under 29,000 miles on my 2013. I had the tire shop pull off the toyo's and install a new set of Yokahama Geolandar G015's and rebalanced the wheels again for the 2nd time. I did find an invoice in my glove box that says the trucks rear bumper was replaced and quarter panel was repaired. Thinking maybe the truck was rear ended. What should I look for next?

If you're still getting vibes with new tires you could have a bent wheel, which should have been noticed by the installer. Rotate rear-front and see if there is a change. Road-force balance sometimes is required for some tire/wheel combos.

Check the u-joints for wear; driveshaft flange torque; and retorque the u-bolts at the leaf springs/axle.

Here is the update on the vibration starting at 45 miles an hour. I took my 2wd truck in yesterday and got it road force balanced. after waiting an hour and a half for the truck. The tech said it was finished explaining to me about what he did including letting me know my wheels were not bent. So thinking great this is it! Driving back home sure enough I hit 45 miles an hour and the vibration is still there.:frusty: Is it time to just take it to a Dealership or reputable shop?

Have front end components checked too. I had a lower ball joint nearly come undone (nut was halfway unscrewed)...ya my bad as a forgot to put the kotter back. Also, you could systematicly replace each wheel with the spare to see if it goes away thus pointing out a bad wheel, tire. Have you checked alignment?

I know it is definitely not a balance, bent rim or bad tire issue. I have had 2 tire brands installed on the truck and numerous tire balancing's done. Including the road force I just had done yesterday. No I have not had an alignment done yet. Do you think this may be a factor?

Sounds like wheel/tire issues are eliminated. Time to inspect the driveline.

Agreed, I am headed to Les Schwab tomorrow. To have them check the driveline and u joints including the front end. I asked them about possibly being an alignment issue. They told me that the alignment would have nothing to do with vibration. I am determined to solve this problem because it is driving me nuts. Or I can just stay under 45 miles an hour and problem solved.

Changed my mind and taking my truck into the dealership this Friday. I am hoping with all my explanations of the issue they will be able to track it down. I hope :fingerscrossed:

I just went through a similar experience and had my tires road force balanced and the vibration was still there. So I jacked the truck up and loosened and re-torqued the lug nuts and all is good now. So I recommend that any time a shop does work that involves removing your wheels to re-torque them your self. Apparently even the dealership doesn't torque them correctly (at least mine doesn't). Mine were all over torqued. Even if it doesn't fix your problem it's worth checking because too much torque on something as critical is lug nuts can be very bad.

alignment CAN cause a vibration to MAGNIFY. I would look into the bearings. it is a known weak point in heavily used vehicles, and from what I have been seeing as of late, bearing fail at about 100k on almost all vehicles now.

there is a possibility a shock or coil over is bad depending on where the vibration is.
could also be a transmission mount......u-joint

a tyre could be separating or have a bad cure.

2 sets of tyres is rare, but.......

without a test drive it is hard to pin down

I ended up taking my truck to Ron Tonkin Toyota to have them track down the vibration for the final time. Expecting the Dealership to say as always they drove the truck and say there is nothing wrong. To getting a phone call saying they tracked down the issue and you have a bad drive shaft. Thank god I have an extended warranty. I am so relieved they found this issue. It was driving me nuts. Now the truck drives perfect. Thanks to Ron Tonkin Toyota.
