    i have a 2015 Tacoma v6 4wd. 60k miles.

I am getting a vibration in the steering wheel that is pretty much only noticeable when im in gear with my foot of the gas. When the rpms drop to 2k I start getting this vibration that I can feel in the steering wheel and it goes away and the ride smooths out if I press the clutch.

Is this my clutch that needs replaced? Bad mounts somewhere? Or am I missing something?

I recently had the rear driveline balanced by a shop and they replaced all u joints and the carrier bearing as well.

    Thanks.

Edit: switching to 4wd does not change my symptoms.

So if you take your foot off the gas, vibration goes away?

No the vibration is only there when my foot is off of the gas, and starts when the rpms get down to 2000 and lower. If I press the clutch, the vibes go away. If I press the accelerator they go away.

is this like when you are moving , or stationary ? Are you lifted ? try the carrier bearing drop, i had driveshaft vibes when i would try to take off in second gear at low rpms, once i got above ~2k rpms they went away.. cb drop helped with this but they didnt fully go away.

It’s a stock pro. No lift. Just the 3/4” or whatever the pro has factory on the front. This is driving, stationary it does not have any issues. I’ve only had the truck for about 8k miles and it randomly started doing it maybe 2k miles ago and I’ve done no mods to the truck. This issue is why I had the driveline balanced and the carrier bearing replaced but it did nothing. I don’t think this is driveshaft vibes as it is mostly prevalent in the steering wheel.

You mentioned you already had the driveline looked at. So I guess U-Joint would be out, they were good right?
While the driveshaft was out did you check for any play on the transfer case output or rear diff yoke?
If it's really in the steering only, my guess would be out-of-balance wheels or bad tire.
Rotate the tires does the vibe go or change?

They replaced all the u joints, yes. The tires have been rebalanced multiple times and rotated as well. I will try rotating them tonight just to be sure. If it was. Wheel or tire, would the vibe go away with the clutch disengagement? That is what is throwing me off. If it was a wheel or tire I would think the vibe would be consistent at whatever speeds and not related to rpms.

Does this condition happen when at a stop and while in motion? When was the last clutch job done?

I'm leaning towards throw out bearing/clutch assembly.

Your throw out bearing is bad.

yeah putting the clutch in throws it off from being tire. Tires can be speed related.
However, now I agree with 12TRDTacoma, it may be the throw out bearing (Also cause you said you just did the clutch).

This is what I was leaning towards. Thank you.

The clutch needs to be done so I planned on doing the throw out bearing and urd sleeve mod or whatever it’s called.

The throwout bearing was squeaking and has transitioned into more of a whine now. Didn’t think that it would cause this much vibration.

I’ll report back once I spend however many hundreds on a clutch and tob lol

    Edit: URD parts= $1077 :anonymous:

Wow a clutch on a 2015! How many miles?

My last truck was 20 years old with the original clutch and brakes when I sold it.

A 2015 with 60k miles? So you’re literally right at the warranty expiration?

I wonder if it would be worth getting Toyota to look at.

Doubt they’d warranty it as a second owner though

It has 66k exactly lol I’m guessing the first owner wasn’t too easy on the clutch, unfortunately.

Definitely sounds like the throw out bearing. That’s crazy though. My 08 has 230,000 miles and I’ve put 130,000 on it myself. Other than the squeak I’ve never had a clutch issue and I’m far from easy on it. I do float my gears after 1st-2nd though and lot of open highway miles so not a lot of use once I get going. Good luck OP!

Especially if they traded it in before the powertrain warranty expired.
