I'm having this TSB done next week, and I'm curious about this dampener that they're putting on the steering wheel. Obviously it's only meant to mask the problem and not really fix anything - so I'm worried I won't like any other side effects it might have.

To those that have had this done, does the dampener change the 'feel' of the road or anything, or making the driving feel numb?

Is this why my steering wheel shakes violently when I apply the brakes?

That sounds like something else , this just takes out the slack steering sensation in particular when riolling over bumps, ruts or potholes

the steering wheel dampener you are referring to is simply a weight they put under the airbag of the steering to try and mask the driveline vibrations

It is not a steering dampener found on bigger trucks that dampen steering movement.
