The last couple hundred miles I've been having a vibration problem in 2nd gear, under decent load only at 1500-2000 rpm only. I cannot replicate the problem at normal rmp in 1st, 3rd or any other gears. The vibration feels the exact same as trying to accelerate at too low rpm (like 600), which is much more intense than the slight vibration/bog at max acceleration at normal rpm. If I shift into 2nd and start acceleration semi aggressively between 1200-1500 I get the slight bog, then at 1500-2000 intense vibration, then back to slight bog after 2000. If I accelerate very slowly in 2nd from 1500-2000 the vibration is non-existent or very minimal.

I've read about the vibration problems, but my case seems different as it isn't 0-20mph or all of 2nd gear. Would like to figure this out. Thanks

Reading it again, is your clutch original? Could be balance issue with clutch and flywheel rotating assembly

I’m not a mechanic, but from my time on here a lot of Tacoma vibe issues originate from the driveline. Weird that it only does it at certain rpms in a certain gear. Have the u-joints ever been replaced over the life of the truck? Swapping out all the u joints with spicers isn’t too expensive and good general maintenance if you’ve got 162k on the original ones. Just a thought

Did you get any fixes? I am having this same issue only at 1500 rpm going 25-30 mph then stops. I too have a 2009 and wondering what this could be!

I had a similar problem, but at 35-40 mph. Weird vibration. Would go away once passed 45 mph, come back if speed decreased. Took it to the dealer. They diagnosed it as faulty U-Joints (drive shaft). Two were bad, one was marginal. Replaced all three. I have a 2006 Prerunner, manual 5 speed with 4 cyl engine.
