    My truck has 250k on it with brand new Hercules Tires on it. Whenever I accelerate mostly at the 50-65MPH Range I get a ton of vibration along with a audible/feel able 'clunk' sound when I first hit the gas pedal. When I put the shifter into neutral and coast the vibration goes away. It vibrates the worst in 4th gear going about 55MPH.

    Any ideas of what this could be? I will try to post a video after work today.

    Much Thanks!

    You check your U-joints? That's pretty much what mine did when the u-joint was toast.

    :thumbsup: agreed. Especially since you get the clunk when first stepping on gas.

    Here is what mine looked like when I got the truck. The cap was busted and no needle bearings were there. This was just clunking around in the yoke.

    No, I don't but I do have a balljoint press. I just need a local dude who needs a u-joint replaced to be my test victim.

    The ball joint press (OTC C clamp type ) is how I press in and out all U joints. Works excellent. I actually clamp the press in my bench vice and use an impact driver to run the lead screw in and out. Helps if another person can hold the sockets (spacers) in place until they make contact with the caps.

    Seems like if you just put new tires on and that's when you starting feeling vibrations, there might be a correlation there. Are you sure your tires and wheels are balanced correctly? How much balancing weight are on each wheel? I've never heard of Hercules tires, are they an off-brand? Sometimes tires have lateral imbalances that are difficult to balance out, and are not always apparent on tire balancing machines.

    Try greasing your driveshaft first. The slip yoke especially. The slip yoke and double cardan will need moly-fortified grease. See the manual in my sig and check under CHASSIS LUBRICATION

    @Timmah! you gotta top this

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FVjKzOVIIs

    Anyways. I'm about to take on this voyage and realized that the the u-joint at the dif and the u-joint at the transmission are different from the 2 u-joints near the carrier bearing. FML...

    Gotta go return 2 u-joints for the right one.

    I don't know how I could top this. Maybe if I wear a low cut t-shirt, mini skirt and some 4" heels I could give this chick a run for her money. I think we need a hot girl for our Timmy the Toolman show.

    Well the balljoint trick was a challenge because of the angle of the shaft. I'm hoping this tool tiger tool I just ordered, and will be receiving tomorrow, works better.
