Vibration when using more torque

    I'm getting a strange vibration when I need more torque. The degree of the vibration seems to be conversant with the level of torque needed. IE: Climbing a hill, or if I shift up while cruising to save gas. I was wondering where I should be looking for the issue.

    98 taco, sr5, no lift, 31x10.5 tires, 2.7L 5spd stick.

    I get the same kind of thing going on with my 2000... I noticed that i get a fluttering sound coming from the glove box area when I'm climbing a hill, especially on the highway in the mountains. Are you getting the same kind of thing or just a vibration.

    On worn out spark plugs (too wide a gap), the spark can blow out under load (climbing a hill). Could your vibration be a high speed miss?

    Bobbed Left front ~ Ok not really but I bought it crashed from the kids dad 4-CHEAP. Frame Swap and 04 Clip + 6" lift ~ Woo Hoo!!!
    Spark blow out / ignition miss should trigger the CEL on an OBDII.

    Is your check engine light on?

    If not a engine running issue I'd look into drive line / U-joints / drive line mounts motor and trans ect...

    No Check engine light, no glove box flutter.

    Unfortunately I'm fairly sure I know what the issue is. Seems like my clutch is slipping. I shifted from 4th down to first with the clutch pushed all the way in and it ground. *sigh* That will put a damper on my mod plans...

    That 4th to 1st grind has nothing to do with the clutch slipping.

    That sounds more like a hydro clutch master / slave issue. Have you had to add any fluid to the Hydro clutch resevior lately? Any trace of a fluid beard leak from the clutch master or slave unit.

    Yup, there's a leak. Must not be a particularly fast one though. I haven't had to add fluid and it's not low.

    With just the vibration to track down I was hoping to do the diagnosis and fixing myself, but with a transmission issue of any kind I think this means a trip to a mechanic.

    Thanks though.

    EDIT: I guess transmission issues would also be why I had a little trouble getting it out of 4wd last time I used it too...

    Transmissions been scoped, no issues there. :) Leakage was old. Vibration was caused by a destroyed U joint and a damaged yoke. Should have my truck back later today from the mechanic.
