Hey guys. I have an 07 prerunner lifted with 285's. automatic.

I did some pretty heavy mudding this weekend and now i have a problem. My truck sometimes vibrates with varying speed 35-50mph. it doesnt do it all the time but when it does it shakes the whole truck.(seems like coming from the front end) but like i said it doesnt do it everytime. I also hear a noise when im turning the wheel in park from the front.

When i was wheeling i did hit a stump pretty bad so im hoping its just a balance issue. anyone else had this problem?

Have you checked for mud build up inside your wheels and brake rotors? Also could be a bent wheel from hitting the stump. Check the simple stuff first.

yeh checked that stuff. Had the truck balanced today. didnt help. It appears to be doing it on slow acceleration around 40mph. its almost like a hardcore takeoff shudder that shakes the whole truck. is it possible that i knocked the driveshaft out of place? it doesnt look bent or anything, but the fact that it is doing it on acceleration makes me think it has to do with the driveshaft. also do you think i should take it into toyota and see if they will align the driveshaft or diagnose the problem? i am still under warranty but the fact that my truck is lifted im sure they will deny it. thanks

Have you tried the carrier bearing drop/shims?

and have you eliminated the u-joints?

had a similar problem on my oldr 4runner. For me it was my u joints. If it only happens when you acclerate it does sound like it could be a driveshaft problem.

I was thinking mud build up, until i read that you hit a tree stump. If you haven't already, take it to the pressure wash and really clean the hell out of it, just to eliminate the mud build-up possibility.

I would get bad vibrations in my old Dodge after hittin the mud, but not in the taco yet.

That movement is severe and excessive. I had a similar issue with my 98. I went as far as replacing the clutch to find it. It wasn't until I disconnected the drive shaft that i found it. The u-joint had binded itself to the cups to the point that I couldn't detect the play. Maybe you should disconnect the driveshaft at one end and check it that way?

98t, when our 2nd gens are in 4x2 driving down the street, does the front shaft spin with the wheels or does it sit still?

Mytoy- yeh man already pressure washed.no mud anywhere.

98tacoma27- Do you think toyota can check this stuff if im under warranty still? its just hard for me to do it. I live in an apt with very limited tools and no jack. lol

The front axles will turn but the front diff remains disengaged until you flip the switch. The front drive shaft should not turn also because the t-case is in 2hi.

Yes, they should as it is part of the power train warranty I believe. And if they give you shit about mods, just mention this.

that act basically says they have to prove it right? what if they say the lift is putting extra stress on the ujoints?
