The same thing that would happen to any vehicle when hitting a pothole on the highway.

So all the tophats could be bad because of 1 guy?

If it's caused by poorly controlled casting quality or poorly toleranced cap/washer/groove design, a percentage may be bad. If Toyota builds 200,000 Tacomas this year and 5% are bad, then that's 20,000 top hats being bad.

Look at how bad the external surface quality looks on the top hats. It's on par with the chinesium tools at Harbor Freight. It's certainly plausible there could be excessive porosity inside.

They did a bunch of abusive things with the truck before their little off-road adventure.

It’s like stabbing a pocket knife repeatedly into a tree trunk, then crying because it breaks when you use it to open an Amazon package.

You know they had a camera rolling when they were bombing through the desert at high speed. So yeah they probably hit something pretty hard.

There are no sarcastic jabs thrown over there, and it feels very sanitized. Vendors for the new truck post there more than they do here though, which brings value.

And over there I can't tell people their trucks are ugly because they have the same truck as me.

Worth observing that TFL’s “It Broke” and follow-up videos combined generated almost a million views, not counting the deluge of amateur videos “analyzing” or attempting to recreate TFL’s issue.

TFL’s problem was unintentional and appears isolated, but it wouldn’t surprise me at all if it spawns a bunch of YouTube copycats who intentionally try to “break” a new Tacoma just for clicks.

Doesn’t mean these trucks won’t have real early teething issues, but…grain of salt.

Why am I just now reading the most succinctly worded reason not to do a spacer lift just now? I've seen this discussed literally hundreds of times and this is the best way of putting the risks.

    (you also lose flex/droop)

Blowing out shocks is sort of a Tacoma birthright. No shame in honoring your forefathers.
