And I like the way mine purrs on 87 without a tune. It used to be tuning was all manual from timing to carburetors. Now you pick the gas and the computer does the rest. As long as it can make the adjustments needed it’s all good. Octane alone might not make more power but it can allow the computer to make timing adjustments that can in some cases increase compression in those engines where timing is used to bleed compression. Boosted engines or those with a wider range of adjustment either require it or at the minimum can take some benefit from it. I’m not a huge fan of blanket statements or especially hyperbole when they clearly don’t apply. There are several taco motors in service not to mention boosted versions and each one is a special case. “Octane doesn’t make power” is misleading at best.

I had to change the title after people came in telling everyone what octane they ran. I'm not usually a fan either, but it did change the the conversation to some actual useful discussion.

I don't think that higher octane is beneficial to our trucks in stock form.... I'd actually like to see it tested.... or if someone had tested it.

I used to pump Ethyl gasoline priced at 53 cents per gallon. It had teh leadz in it to prevent teh knocks...

The full service years. Back when $5.00 would get you places... your tires checked (no TPMS). oil checked...windshield washed.

We even had purple cans of recycled motor oil for sale..."Soil purple"

Fuel stations have two tanks in the ground for regular - plus - premium regardless of brand of octane levels. Only two tanks do all.
Regular is in the large tank, the other tank (could be the same size) is premium.
If you choose the mid-grade plus, the pump blends the two (regular and premium) to dispense the mid-grade.

Unless you have the engine that requires or recommends a higher octane you are not going to see a benefit in a standard compression engine.
Just like fancy pin stripes or the STP sticker do not give you an extra 5 HP.
