VIN Number Question

In all of the cars I have owned, I have had a sticker in the driver side door jam. On this sticker was the VIN number of the vehicle. On my new 2013 Tacoma, I have that sticker, and it has, what appears to be, a VIN number on it, but it does not match the VIN number that is under the windshield of the truck. Is this typical?

 

Is the sticker on the door itself or the body?

If its the one on the door it just means that your door has been replaced.

 

On a new truck, there should be no reason the VIN is different from dash to door.

Maybe. But if the stealership didn't have the decency to put a new door on a new truck...
Besides, the VIN stickers on all taco's are on the b pillar jamb, not the door.
Assembly line screw up?

 

OP, did you sign-up at http://www.toyota.com/owners/ ? I ask because if you do you might be able to see work done (mine shows tire work done 5 months before I ever stepped foot on the lot).

I believe he is looking at the door part number and not the VIN. One way to check Im right, is to see if he sees a similar sticker with numbers under the hood and on every other door. My 2009 has a part number sticker on every body part. The VIN number should be on the pilar towards the bottom and not on the door itself.

 

The sticker I'm talking about is on the pillar, not the door. I bought the Tacoma new and the dealership said nothing to be about damage during shipping or before it was shipped from the factory. I actually got the truck the it was delivered to the dealership. I will check Toyota Owners, I have signed up there, to see if it has any info. If it doesn't, I will definitely be contacting the dealership to see whats up.

Only reason I noticed it was because my insurance company sent me a letter saying my VIN was wrong and that I needed to double check it and call them.
