VIN on glass

Hello members, just curious, every tacoma ive owned from 95.5 to 2000 has had vin # on most glass. My 99 reg cab for some odd reason has no vin on any glass pieces. Lol anyone else ever notice this with any of tbier rigs, or anyone have an educated reason as to why this one truck I have does not have them. Lol cheers!

 

Lots of City Police offered this for cheap. I remember in Austin at least once a year they would offer this to everyone who came to a certain place they would etch the VIN on every piece of glass so if the car was stolen and parted out they could find who the parts belonged to.

 

My 2000 does not have any of the glass etched

 

^^ Nor does my 1998 Limited.

 

My 02 has it. Not sure if a previous owner had it done or it came that way from factory

 

All the glass windows on my 2008 came with the VIN already etched on them, when I purchased mine.

A big plus was when I notified my insurance, specifically about this, I was given a good discount!

 

Interesting about the police dpt offering, I always thought it was a toyota thing since ive seen it mostly on tacoma. Thanks for the input guys, now I understand, my 95.5 5 lugger had all etched.

 

Gulf States Toyota use to put it on every truck before they got sent to the dealer- they increased the cost to the dealer who passed it one to the buyers.
