One more piece to add to this thread. I’ve been restoring a 1947 south bend lathe I recently acquired. I really became attached as it’s about as complete a machine as I’ve seen. Plus the lathe bed is only like 36”Long so it’s easy enough to still fit in my garage. Still have to finish the drive unit but it’s almost there 06CFE2B3-6C79-4F63-9DD3-5BF9D7F0AC38.jpg 2988B7DF-272F-4D48-B35E-4CDDF43DEC6F.jpg 49158622-F6C3-4FB1-ABFA-6270136351F4.jpg C6AC0AAD-FEB9-41FC-952C-BC2BC3642069.jpg

Hard dedicated work pays off it looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor. Any plans on what your going to spin first?

My son wants to learn the trade which was my biggest motivation for this. It has full threading capability so it’s pretty capable. Biggest limitations are it’s smaller size. It’s only a 9inch swing but that’s what attracted me to it. It’s small enough to fit in my garage without overtaking the space.

I think a Volvo Pentax engine alignment tool will probably be first up. But I have lots of ideas. I even have an original milling attachment for this lathe also so my options are quite large.

I’ve got lots of plans for some different steam engines. Mostly for equipment repair though. I have access to a very well equipped shop now. I just tried to upload a video file from my phone of an engine I built and failed. Gosh darn technology. I thought this stuff was supposed to be easy now.

I’ve got some ideas for a mini canon too, but more than likely would get me into trouble so I will stick with the engines. :)

Here’s a shot of an engine I built a few years ago. I wish I could get a video of it loaded. 826181CB-9BA0-47DF-8DB4-065540F9BC96.jpg06400606-A66E-4212-81A3-4C5EBDEC7887.jpg

I completely agree with the sentiment. I’m lucky enough to work in a shop that is as much museum as shop. I have a couple of machines from 1924 still in use. They are industrial art for sure.

I love it I've spent the last 30 years refinishing mostly autobody and heavy equipment on the commercial side but on the side have helped with several old Farmalls and farm implements. It's fun idk about alot of the stuff you all have here but I appreciate it and the gentleman i tagged loves refurbishing old tools and has apparently a nice collection.

These were at the cumming tractor show. The 8n has a Flathead v8 and the bottom two are steam powered.
