I did mine 6 months ago using the wraparmor vinyl piece. It is actually more difficult than it appears to get it correct.
So...ended up calling a friend who does vinyl signs and paying him because it was very time consuming. I'm glad he did it and it was worth the money paid!
I also bought the white vinyl letter inserts.
    Here's how mine came out...

Is that on combination with a heat gun, or just trying to work it on there by hand?

Heat gun. Not sure about WrapArmour, but mine was Orocal as posted above. I didn’t want to derp it, and Amirak was willing to accept my crazies and “get it right”. I think in the end I did this four times between the vehicles. Use the soap float method to get things right and be patient. Heat gun (HF onsale), a needle and gloved fingers (those ones you have leftover from COVID) work wonderfully. Again, patience is your friend. I did it drinking lemonade under a popup, sitting on a mechanic’s stool. Done in about 4 hours from setup/tear down.

Do you think that using the letter inserts would hide this issue of the letters not looking flush? I want to do this but the letters look like a huge pain in the ass.

They aren’t, you just have to spend a little time with a hairdryer or heat gun. It doesn’t take much to soften and allow you to press into ridges. You need a needle to poke a hole for the air/soap to escape (I used the lower corner of the insert). Take your time and don’t overheat (you will gloss the vinyl, but you’d know it and would have had to push it to that point). The hardest letter is “A” because of the center bar. I don’t mind answering questions.

I used the stick on inserts and it definitely helps hide the inevitable bubbles that end up there

Where did you get yours? I was thinking the same with the inserts.

If you do the heat gun/needle method, you won’t have bubbles.
Get the panel right with soapy water and squeegee first. Let it set. Then start working the letters. Use the needle in the corners if you end up with a bubble. It will allow the water/soap (hint - heat=steam) to escape and the hole will close, since material will reshrink. The insert letters do help create an offset (most folks here and online offer them). You don’t want to cover any significant bubbles, because that is unsecured vinyl - not stuck to anything beneath. It will only cause issues down the road.

This is a good tip but I have seen some vinyl that is supposed to be installed dry. I would see what vinyl they use and look up the installation guide first. The other tips in here are good too. Use a heat gun, and install it one half at a time (leave the backing on one side). You can also get adhesion promoter to spray on the recessed letters and keep it from bubbling up over time.

Eh, I'll be pealing it off soon anyway. My first attempt at vinyl. Thanks for the tips though, I'll try this next time I do some.

Definitely takes some practice to get good at installing vinyl. I’ve done a little bit but I’m nowhere near as good as the guys who do it every day.
