You don't need to scuff up for plastidip.
While it would be easier, the plastidip hardens and cracks over time being in the direct sunlight like that. I did my grille a few years back and it's flaking off now. Easy to re-do though.

If you're patient and have help wrapping the roof would be easy. Pull the weatherstripping, antenna (if you have one) and the third brake light. If you get quality vinyl (3m or Avery) you can lift it up and lay it back down as you go from one end to the other. From what I've read, it takes 24 hours for it to fully adhere to the surface. Use a heatgun to help contour it to the lines in the roof and some soft of rubber squeegee

Please never, ever, ever scuff a surface before dip. You will create a nightmare scenario when removing, and basically turn something that's designed to be temporary into a long term pain. If you're going to take the time to prep anything, just go all in and paint. Otherwise, just clean very very good, and dip away.

when I did my grille a year ago. brain fart moment!

Happens to the best of us. I dipped some 17" bronze wheels in white, and had them last a year still looking good. Used 1 can per wheel. The cleaner that they sell on DipYourCar.com called "Brake Dust Professional" or BDP is LEGIT for future reference.

you don't have remove anything. all you have to do is create seams around the brake light and the fin. just make a slit and then tuck the vinyl around the fin.

Can you upload more photos please? I got a white 17' Taco and debating whether or not to black out the roof to blend in with my moon roof or to just leave it as it.

been planning to do that to my roof on my white Pro, lots of high contrast black & white, but thinking it may be a bit too much... and it's around $400 to have it done professionally.

Line-X the hood and roof for between $550 to $675 and would take about 3-4 hours to complete. And never have to redo nothing again.

That might be a bit more commitment than vinyl and dip customers really want.

This is true. You just cannot change your mind and peel Line-X off. I don't have the money to keep replacing vinyl when it wears out and as I get older I don't want to wax either. To each his own.

On a scale of 1-10 I'd say a 2. Once you get the first one off you're gonna be like "that's it?"

@steeeben Here's some more pics for you guys! A bit dirty but it's abnormally cold here for the area and I haven't washed it in weeks.

    Thanks!

I'm thinking of altering the grilel now and painting the grid satin black to match as well. Not digging the colour match portion anymore, I vinyled it and it's starting to crack in places. Would love the Pro grille but don't want to pay $400 for it.

That's probably the next option, paint I already have. Just need the time to get it done!
