Please help! I've owned my 2011 Tacoma 4x4 for a few months now with little to no issues but for the last month or so I've been hearing this violent rattle from directly underneath me.

It only happens 50% of the time but when it does happen, the truck is idling in park or in drive. When I slowly start to give it gas the noise gets louder and then stops. I don't hear it again until I'm at a stop light or stop sign or once again idling in park.

I did notice a couple of times the noise was affected when I turn on the A/C. the truck is in drive with my foot on the brake, A/C is off no noise, when I turn the A/C on again the noise comes back. I'm just really hoping it's not what I think it is. Anything helps. Thanks!

Check for heat shields that are falling off. Also look for something rubbing like the fan hitting the shroud.

Yeah it’s not something big. Exhaust front to back. Some exhaust shield mounting hardware rusted and rattling is your most likely culprit

Gotta agree with the post above, sounds like something harmonic due to a loose component.

Thanks you guys I really appreciate the help and feedback. I was able to get under the truck last night and discovered the issue.

Felt pretty dumb when I realized but what are you gonna do. Just glad it’s nothing major.

    Excellent,

Nothing to feel dumb about, you learned something along the way and can pass that knowledge to someone else down the road
