The previous owner had a Viper installed but didn't hookup the wire to the tachometer. As a result, it often doesn't start on the 1st attempt. I've pulled the dash apart and am ready to attach the wire, but I'm not 100% sure which one to hook to.

I'm looking for help from someone who has installed theirs or does it for living.

The Viper is a model 410EV and the tach wire from it is purple with a white stripe.

The tach wire into the back of the instrument cluster, I THINK, is a light-green with black(?) stripe wire.

Here is the wiring diagram (for a 2003, mine is a 2001), and the 3 connectors to the back of the instrument cluster. White connects over the tach/temp gauge, blue connects in the center, an brown connects over the fuel gauge. The brown connect does have a light-green/black wire. However the wiring diagram only says "LG-B" - does the B mean black, brown, blue, ????. Does LG mean light-green, light-gray, ????.

    Which wire do I cut?

When measuring tach signal, set your digital multimeter to AC signal. The voltage should increase with RPM.

An alternative location is a fuel injector. There will be two wires at the fuel injector, connect it to the non common wire when comparing other fuel injector wires.

Last one I did we used the injector, easier to get to than the actual tach in that car. All the unit neeeds is some kind of signal the engine is running. In any case it's usually a LOT easier to attach to the ECU than the actual tach. Pin 15 according to google.

I agree, since the cluster is somewhat of a pain to get to. But I ended up using the cluster because I had already had everything out during alarm install.

In that case, the wire you should be looking for in the cluster is going to be Light Green with Black stripe located in the 13 pin brown connector. It should be pin #4.

my tacoma had the factory rs3200, I was able to locate the instructions and reverse it to remove all components. I haven't heard anything from the buyer but do hope the install went smooth. I sent him the pdf of the instructions too.

Could go for the "tach" signal wire from the igniter. If it's a v6 it's easy access.

Is this igniter the same for 2001 to find the tach power lead?
