    Back in the 80’s I was at a party with my wife and one of the guests told an interesting story- he claimed to be the singer of this song. He said he was hired to sing the lead on the recording and was subsequently drafted- the first time he actually heard the song on the local military radio station during his stint in Vietnam.

    The other guests who knew him claimed it was true, and he sung a few bars more or less as a joke.

    The guy at the party claimed to be the singer on the record and was never given credit. The label hired a band to tour the song after this guy did the studio work.

    Not sure, but he sounded legit.

    It was an interesting story at least to me.
