Wondering if anyone has any stories, good or bad, about the safety inspection/sticker process for Virginia. I’ll be moving there mid-2019 and do not want to have to reverse any of the mild-mods I have done thus far.

    Thanks for the help.

Rear bumper has to be at most 30" off the ground. Thats the only weird rule I know of. Others may chime in.

Lift, wheels & tires, SPod (install and wire looms look very factory), Roof rack, lights (bars and pods), dash cam, Side steps, window tint. I think that’s all... no intake or exhaust mods (thanks to CA compliant BS!)

Window tint may be your only issue, but chances are if it passed in SoCal it will pass in VA.

Make sure your light bars and pods are covered.

If you take it to any toyota dealer for the inspection make sure all your bulbs are OEM and not aftermarket LED.

Early welcome to VA! Where will you be moving? If you are moving to northern VA near DC then there are a ton of "mom and pop" inspection places that will pass you as long as your lights work, your brakes work, etc. First time I got my truck inspected was at a Toyota dealership where an actual state trooper does the inspections and I failed because my ditch lights didn't have covers on them. Easy fix of course but just make sure you have covers for all offroad lighting.

Nothing too weird just make sure everything works and no dash warning lights are on. I removed my front sway bar and my TPMS is is disabled but they haven't busted me for that yet.

I moved here from Dan Diego several years ago. You're going to hate this state.

I’ll be in southwestern VA. But good to know, stay away from the dealership. thank you

Cool. If you plan on wheeling swing by the "Northern Virginia Roll Call" thread from time to time. That's where we setup our trips and Flagpole Knob near Harrisonburg is a popular spot. That might be about a halfway point between you and I.

Fak, stupid cardinal directions. I meant southeast... I’m used to the ocean being west, because that’s where the ocean belongs!

Indeed. Looking for a house in Pungo right now actually.

Anything equal or higher than the headlights must be covered or removed for inspection. Northern Virginia(DC Area) does smog. It something worked off the showroom/dealer lot, it should work for inspection purposes. From the way it sounds you should be fine. Yes there are some inspectors less strict, but not the larger auto/franchise places. If you are stopped by State police and due to stop you are dinged for something that doesn't meet the inspection standard, then that comes back on the inspection station. There are of course ways around everything, including the more liberal inspectors. Good Luck, I think you will be fine.

Are you military? If not, get ready for the personal property tax. My 2017 4Runner was going to be $630 in 2018 until I showed up with my LES showing I was a WA resident.

PPT is the bane of my existence living in VA. I've had my truck for 5 years now and it's cost me probably 2500-3000 just to have it in VA. I think I THINK I can come up with a few things I'd rather spend that money on.
