Sweet, I'm in Chesapeake. Make sure your lightbars/pods etc have covers, no stickers below the little sun strip on the windshield, tires cant stick out excessively (I wanna say it's 3 inches but not sure) and we do have tint laws, but if it passes there, it should pass here.

CA has the tax included with your registration fees so it works out to be about the same amount of $$ it's just a different way to pay it.

I don’t know...I just checked NADA on a 2014 Sport double cab 100k miles and it came back with trade in of $20k. At VA Beach’s $4 per $100 that’s $800 for PPT.

High end is $26k and $1040 in PPT.

    Yikes!

I will also be coming back to northern VA in a couple of months, not looking forward to being penalized for having a truck that is awesome and keeps its value, I am already budgeting for the stupid PPT.

Firing this forum back up. So thing changed a little. I’ll be moving to Fredericksburg/Quantico area. Anyone from those parts?

I really really want to do a full URD exhaust before I make the drive cross country. Y’all know any emissions laws for that area?

If you are going to live in Prince William, or Stafford counties you have to pass emissions. If you live south of the Rappahannock, Fredericksburg it looks like you are ok, but someone from down there should confirm I'm in Northern Virginia.

If theres no check engine light and emissions components haven't been removed or altered it will pass.

I have a maggie blower, trd cat back, intake, etc and theres no issues. All the do is plug in to see if its good

Thanks, good to know it’s a plug in. Now if I can find a shop around me that can install and address and codes!

If you itemize on your fed taxes, you can deduct a PPT but not a registration fee.

^^ Good summary. That is all you need to know.

but let me give you a small starter list of things I don't miss:
    - stupid emissions requirement and vehicle checks (<= just another form of taxation), tint law, etc
    - TAXES (but you're coming from So Cal, so you may not even notice)
    - salt on the roads all winter (and brine = salt mixed with water to hasten the rusting process...)
    - state gov't (hence all of the above come with...)
    - state troopers, heavily patrolled highways, and radar detectors illegal.
    - Traffic in northern VA and Hampton Roads

I lived in northern VA many years ago, which also gets extra high real estate and cost of living. Couldn't get away fast enough. I hope your experience is much better. I like the Fredericksburg / Richmond area much better than NoVa. My wife is from Va Beach, some nice areas around there and lots of military.

Yes, I am a little grumpy about VA. As a counterpoint, millions of people live there, so there are obviously some great things about it. It just wasn't for me at that point in my life. Go in with an open mind and optimism, and I'm sure your experience will be much better. Good luck with the move.
