Anyone know any places in Virginia to do some off-roading?

I used to live in Roanoke and puttered around out there a bit. There's an off road system on Potts Mountain, up around Newcastle off 311 - google Potts Mountain Jeep Trail. You can get into some areas with old forest roads if you keep going out 311 on to Paint Bank, and hang a left on Waiteville Rd/Rt 600. It'll take you through a little bit of WV, go back into VA, and turn into Big Stony Creek Rd. Stay on it and you'll eventually come to a road that cuts left. It goes in a big loop between there and Mountain Lake, and there are some trails back in there. Big Stony has pretty good trout fishing too. I know there are some trails down around Rocky Mount, but I never got around to looking for them.

Check out my build thread (Beginning of Money Pit)
Yes. There are a bunch, and depending on how much height and armor you have will depend on which ones you can do without damage. If you look up the nova thread, there are a bunch of us that go frequently.

    Peter's mill
    Flagpole
    Potts mountain
    Chaos offroad park
    The cove

Potts mountain probably being the least stock friendly. And then the cove, chaos and flagpole depending on weather.

Peter's Mill is absolutely stock friendly if you arent hooning, and watch where the holes are.

    Just my experience

No problem. I spent a lot of time on the areas I was talking about. If you Google White rocks campground, that will get you in the right area. Don't turn down the last road to White Rocks, but stay straight. As you go out that road, you eventually come to an intersection with an old, unmaintained road that has some ruts, mudholes, exposed roots, and some areas washed down to rock. There are some really deep holes but there are routes around them. It isn't super challenging if you skip all the deeper holes but you can take on whatever you want. I had to winch a Jeep Cherokee out of a hole up there one time. I haven't been out there in over five years, so I can't remember specific directions. And the road might be in a lot worse shape now, too. Is your truck stock or modified?
