Visit dealership message after jump start

I was messing around with radio and ignition on, I managed to drain the battery to the point I needed a jump start. After the jump start, the dash says visit dealership and flashes with these messages.

System Malfunction visit dealership
Check Engine visit your dealership
Drive Start Control Malfunction visit your dealership

 

Allow your 12V to get charged and then see if the codes dont clear. Go for a 30 min drive or something.

how long were you sitting with it in accessory mode on? you know if you leave the truck runninng in park it will shut itself off but still be "on" for however long your in the car with the key

 

About 15 minutes. I was parked in the garage and didn't want to inhale fumes.

 

Futzing around for only a short while with engine off and a few accessories on shouldn't typically be enough to drain the battery, so not unreasonable to get an electrical system test to make sure this doesn't happen when you're somewhere remote.

 

Put a trickle charger on it for a few hours. Get the battery 95%+ charged.

 

correct trickle charger on the truck, and let it be. now if that is still there in the AM that might casue some concern

 

I had similar issue and it turned out to be a bad battery. I took battery to dealership and they ran their tests and gave me a new one under warranty.

 

Update: after a couple of drive cycles, it cleared up. Scared me to be honest with you as the battery drained once before also but I didn't have the error codes

 

Battery draining in 15 minutes to the point of not starting the truck, sound like a failing battery. Not once, but twice! I would get into the dealer to have the battery checked and most likely replaced before it fails again. These trucks have AGM batteries which do not like being below 12.7 VDC before they deteriorate. Being drawn down to the point of need a jump is really not good.

 

Everything today is a BMW from 20 years ago they are electronically finicky.

 

Ill say it again, just as others did....
If the vehicle is being driven & not just sitting for a month+.......
15-30 minutes with the radio on & doors open shouldn't have caused you heartburn to have to jump start the truck.....

You already stated this has happened before....
Very common to have a faulty battery with a bad cell, especially on new vehicle...

Do what you wish, just saying....
Ide take a little trip to the dealer, mention you had to jump it 2x, get yourself a battery under the BIG W......

Some vehicles now with start/stop feature have 2 batteries. I'm not sure if the tacoma is this way or not. But if one or both batteries are dead/low this could explain the messages

 

OP has iforce maxx. it has 12volt battery and hybrid battery

To each their own....

Even if thats the case, they tested it & it is what it is........
As a tech for 32 years, ive seen 1000's of batteries that were faulty / have failed early on.

 

agreed, my wife her Subaru had 2 batteries within the first year. they would drop a cell, but that was pretty common for a while
