Great forum here with lots of good info, glad to be here.

Current ride: 2010 VW GTi 2.0 TSi, heavily modded with 325hp to the wheels, I just don't need that much horsepower anymore as DPS here in AZ in crackin down hard for speeding as well as local PD. And I want a vehicle that has more room and more practicality, so I can lug all my bowling balls around lol.

Looking to get into: 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport DCSB 4X4 - 6 speed Auto

Alright, so I head into Big Two Toyota/Scion here in Gilbert, AZ to get a feel about ordering a Taco, seems easy as a lot of members on here seem to have done so. I'm greeted by the "Internet Sales Manager" and tell him I'm interested in ordering a new Taco per my specs, he immediately seems not interested in that idea.

So he wearily takes me into the showroom and has me fill out a contact form. We sit down at his desk and I ask him how long it takes from time of order to delivery and he says about 3 months. He pulls up the Toyota web site and tries to start a build for what I want and he starts fumbling and bumbling around, I'm like this dude is Internet Sales Manager and he can't even navigate around the Toyota web site to make a build??

He lets me takes over on his computer and I finish the build and the MSRP comes out around 40k. I start to ask about the MSRP and if they can negotiate and he flips me over to the GM, he then tries to get me to buy a car on the lot, or offers to locate one from another dealer..blah..blah. I have to remind him I have a particular truck I want and nothing else will work.

So here's where I can use some help as a first time buyer of a custom order from a dealer:

    1. Are most of the sales guys and GM's idiots? Do they not understand what a custom order is and that I want my truck in blazing blue pearl, not white, red or black and not a manual...

    2. When or how do I begin to start to negotiate down off the MSRP of $40k

Thanks for any and all help, hopefully some veterans around here can maybe point me to a good Toyota dealer here in Arizona as well.

You've never dealt with toyota before. They don't build factory custom trucks, period. By being too specific with what you want, it makes it VERY difficult for toyota dealerships to source trucks for you. Certain factory options can be tweaked at a dealership. You may be in search of a truck that has damn near sold out for scheduled builds for the year. This is what I've absorbed frI'm the wise men of tacomaworld. I had the unbelievable luck of having my perfect tuck on the lot at the dealership in my hometown. Hope your luck improves! You're looking for a sweet ride.

Wow really? So a 2016 Taco in blazing blue pearl, DCSB 4X4 with the Premium and Technology Package with JBL Audio in 6 speed auto is too custom? Seems to be right up the alley from
what I've read other members here ordering. I added some other accessories too but damn. It's not like I was asking for the custom jet pack and rocket booster ya know.

Keep trying. A price that is much different than msrp will be tough though.

And why is that? I think I read a thread here about "Never paying MSRP, but below"?

Its a new model on a high demand vehicle that you would be ordering. I personally would never pay over 200 on invoice but the ball is in their court on this one. You could wait for one to show up though.

Some options will not be available on certain packages too. You might end up getting options that you don't particularly want but cant get the truck without.

Yeah I noticed that I had to get the Tow Package, but it's all good. I just dig the blazing blue pearl though man. I had a 2005 X Runner in Speedway Blue
and still sorry to this day I got rid of it.

They should be able to get that setup for you. All Toyota dealers have access to view incoming shipments of vehicles to the area and can find one with the specs you want and get it routed to their store.

You don't need to pay MSRP. Check out http://truecar.com and see if your dealer(s) are on there. It will give you an idea of what would be a good deal on any new vehicle.

I love Toyota but despise most of their dealerships and salespersons. They're either completely clueless and/or cocky with their "fine, if you won't take what we're offering someone else is up right behind you" attitude. It's a good thing the company makes such a great, reliable product, but most dealers could use a major lesson in customer service/relations.

I've had ONE Toyota dealer I'd recommend to others, every other one I'd either tell a friend to avoid like the plague or go in with great caution.

In other words OP, shop around...try another dealership and try your luck.

I never said it was too custom, just very specific, and therefore harder to source. Having wiggle room on your trim selection and colour MAY help with price negotiations. Nothing on a TRD can't be added to an SR5 in the aftermarket

It's almost as if you have to walk in there like...

    Screen Shot 2016-03-20 at 11.50.38 PM.jpg

...which is completely opposite of how it should be when you go into a dealership. Toyota dealers let the popularity of the Tacoma get to their heads, I tell ya.

Yeah true that, now that I'm in the market for a taco it seems like everywhere I look here in AZ I see one. Very popular truck,
lots of Dodge Rams too though. Hopefully I don't have to end up going that route!

Try different dealers? Or maybe wait until they start getting allocations for the 2017 and ask if they can change one allocated to them?

Just kiddin I wouldn't touch a crappy Dodge with a ten foot pole.

Yeah I guess I'll try another dealer or two until I strike gold.
