Download a few apps. I worked with cars.com, auto trader and cars guru to get the different dealer prices. You'll get an idea of how much $ you can save vs your dealership's quote.
When I was ready to buy, I emailed around 12 dealers and had a handful respond. In the end, three dealerships were competing on a price and fees. With these apps you should find your color and package np. I'm still getting emails from dealers who dropped the ball two weeks later!

That's cool as I didn't even think of using those apps to my advantage. On a side note, I went into my profile settings and have unchecked about
every box, but I still keep receiving annoying emails everytime someone replies to my thread. Do you know how to turn that off?

Haha, I had the same problem when I joined a few weeks ago, drove me NUTS.

I unchecked all those boxes as well, and kept getting them. Finally, I scrolled to the bottom of one of the emails I was getting on my phone and there was a link that allowed me to stop getting them, something like an "unsubscribe" link...I can't remember exactly how it was worded. But after I did that, no more emails.

...sorry for the email you're getting from this response, btw

Btw. Have a set price you think is realistic and fair to negotiate with. Tell them that is your set budget and if they can't negotiate let them know you understand but you'll have shop elsewhere...but if they change their mind, to give you a call. Once you have more than one dealer negotiating you'll save some money.

Yeah me too. My wife was jumping my case because she was getting my emails too. "Are you thinking about trading your truck?!"" What's this about swapping hoods?!!" Oh boy....
Oh and check out all apps inventory because some trucks
won't show on the other apps. I noticed auto trader showed less inventory than other apps. Carsguru will show how long the vehicle was on the lot and if the dealer raised or lowered the price on a vehicle too

Alright just went into my email and did the Unsubscribe, thanks a bunch on that.

Well the MSRP on the build was 40k so I'll have to do more homework on the local comp prices with other dealers then work from there.
Was hoping to pay around 38k though.

Bought my Tacoma a few weeks ago. I also tried to start my buying process at Big Two Toyota in Gilbert. Nice looking dealership, but I got stuck with a saleswoman who really knew NOTHING about the Tacoma besides cosmetic details, and clearly did not know what was new on the 2016 vs. the 2015. I knew more from a few days of researching online, mostly on the Toyota website, and well before I discovered this site. They did not have the exact truck I wanted, made it sound like it would be nearly impossible to get the exact truck I wanted even from dealerships in other states, and tried to get me into a Limited model that was way more $$$ than I wanted to spend. I ended up leaving, but on a whim went to AutoNation Toyota in Tempe later that evening. The salesman there knew EVERYTHING about trucks in general, and almost everything about the new 2016. He explained that Toyota does not stop the factory production lines for custom orders, and the dealerships have little input about the stock they normally receive. He said the factory will produce long beds for a few days, switch over to short beds, then they may go weeks before they start manufacturing long beds again, etc. He said this manufacturing process improves quality control, but it leads to issues when someone tries to get the EXACT truck they have their mind set on. I ended up buying my Tacoma that night (dealership stayed open about 1.5 hours late for me to make the sale) and got ALMOST the exact truck I wanted. I really wanted a long bed and a TRD Sport, so combined with one of the two colors I actually liked (Inferno), I pulled the trigger on the deal. The truck came with the Premium and Technology Package with JBL audio, and though I initially didn't think I wanted these features, I am really glad I got them now. So, I had to compromise a little, but in the end, I love my truck, and imagine I will be very happy with it for a long time.

Talk to Chris Lopez at Riverview, he's here on the forum too. He did me a solid after I had gone through all the same bs you did. Just be prepared to wait some time if you want an exact build. His price is preset for anyone on TW. I can assure you that you won't be disappointed with his level of service.

Have you been on www.toyota.com and attempted to build the truck configuration you want?

I've found www.cars.com can speed the process of locating a dealer that may have one you like. Tho it's not always close to home.

Not sure about other regions but, GST gets a certain allocation of certain build configurations, they do not dealer trade units outside the GST region, and certain dealers inside the region will not trade with other dealers inside the region on every product/configuration.

It's a bitch knowing what you want, seeing it in other areas and yet Toyota doesn't sell it the way you like it near your home...

OP, the Taco is still a super hot selling truck. Ordering one online would normally be a simple concept, but dealerships want to make money; so if they can sell something local it is more beneficial, most don't care about caring for customers wants as opposed to quick money.

I tried to buy Toyotas for years, but the dealerships in the DFW area of Texas were so terrible that I easily spent $20K more elsewhere just to NOT have a Toyota. Then many years later a new dealership opened up about 45 miles from me. A friend recommened, and I found the best dealership ever and bought my Taco.

Internet sales usually means selling cars off the lot listed on the internet, not ordering; at least in the DFW area.

Getting money off MSRP, is usually based by region and how much sales the dealership made that month. My dealership STILL has no TRDs or Limiteds on the lot. One SR or SR5 may be on the lot. As soon as they come in they are sold. Getting under MSRP is tough when people pay. Some dealerships here are selling ABOVE MSRP.

OP, try those links that someone posted, but when searching change your zip code to somewhere else. For some reason Toyota has a secret reason why we can't search the USA for a truck. When you put in your zip it ONLY looks within a certain region. I would have flown somewhere and drove it back if I had known. I wanted JBL with mine, and I was told maybe 6 months wait, I needed a vehicle so I bought what I could.

So try searching different zips; try 75254 Dallas. You should find one; most people ordering want a longbox or manual. If you don't want either of those options, then you should be able to find the blue. I love the blue as well, but couldn't find one. Good Luck and let us know how it works out.

Do you know what Toyota region you're in? I'm guessing it'd be good news if it's the same as OPs.

Yes most of the sales guys/women are idiots. I have been to 8 dealerships through md,va,and nc and have yet to meet anyone who really knew anything about these trucks. I have run into sales people who did not know the difference between a OR and Sport just by looking at them.

Just recently I was talking to a sales lady about some of the minor problems the 2016 were having and she swore up and down that could not be true because Car and Truck rated the Tacoma the numer one pickup truck. She then goes to her GM and they print something off the internet showing Car and Truck high rating on the Tacoma. I then point her to this web forum and told her to check it out for your self. These are people who have brought these trucks. One thing about these sales people they may not know the product but they do know how to keep the sales price up on these trucks.

I am taking the same approach you are taking in that I will be ordering mine. Someone else on this thread made a very good suggestion in that you should visit several dealerships even it it means going out of state.

Just the other day I informed a salesman that I was looking for a
Silver 4x4 long bed dbl cab OR PT/JBL with tow package. He calls me the next day and says we got that truck you wanted. It will be here next week and it has everything you wanted except it is gray. Well sir that is not what I wanted I specially told you silver

Like three months ago I explain to a salesman what I wanted and he calls me back two weeks later saying we found that truck you wanted. I get off from work early and drive over there and yo and behold they have siliver long bed but it is a SR5. Sometimes I wonder do they provide training to their sale staff. I mean I have educated my self on these trucks just by browsing the Internet. When I pull into a dealership many of them are standing around drinking coffee and eating doughnuts They have access to the Internet to place a order but it seems no one is using the Internet to learn about the product

By the way, don't regret getting the tow package, even if you never plan to tow anything. The additional oil cooler and transmission cooler can't do anything but extend the life of your truck, especially in Arizona!

I called four dealers in my area before finding someone who knew about these trucks. I did everything by phone. I wanted a dealer to honor Costco pricing (it was only $650 off MSRP, not a great deal but best I could find) the first three dealers I called said full price or nothing.

I ended up talking to someone in internet sales at a dealer about 45 minutes from me who knew what she was doing. Told her what I wanted, gave her deposit via credit card by phone, and placed the order. She kept in touch via email about the build date, etc. I didn't meet her until two months later when my truck arrived. Trouble free delivery.

One thing she told me is her dealer is a large volume "truck dealer" so they get more vehicles allocated to them. Keep trying I'm sure someone will take your money :)

FYI I got the same model truck you want, in silver. I paid about 38,200 K plus tax/lic fees..

I initially started with Big Two since I was directed there from the USAA car buying service. They were linked as a dealer that did TrueCar pricing. Sure they do, depending on the model and trim level....

One of the worst experiences ever. Wanted to hold a credit card for a "call back" when the truck I wanted came in. I'd rather just give you a cash deposit. They had no interest in ordering what I wanted. Kept trying to
sell me a truck I didn't want that they had on the lot. Called back a few times even after I flat out told them I would not be doing business with them.

I ended up buying from Elvis, the fleet manager at Right Toyota on Frank Lloyd Wright. Got to him from a buddy of mine that used to work there. Good experience. I waited for the DCLBOR 4x4 Quicksand with no premium package since I did not want a sunroof.

I went to 2 dealerships this weekend. Same experience. If it wasn't on the lot, they weren't interested. And asking for anything off MSRP was like asking to sleep with his wife. In fact, Toyota of Orange said they'd demand $5K over MSRP for the '17 PRO. Time to show my '06 Tacoma a little love again.
