I am still awaiting the arrival of the truck I ordered. The key to Toyota or any dealer for that matter is if you have a handful of dealers around you like I do, put them up against one another and make them earn your business. I sent an email out to a handful of dealers telling them what I was looking for which at the time ironically was a TRD Pro 4Runner. Only two dealers replied to my inquiry and after some back and forth and seeing that almost every allotted Pro was already spoken for months out I started looking at the Tacoma while waiting for an oil change a couple days after sending out emails on the Pro. I had a second gen and regretted getting rid of it. So I called the one dealer back and said I was going to scrap the 4Runner idea and I want a Tacoma but this is what it has to have. I had already checked the inventory in the region and knew the truck wasn't available and knew it would need to be a custom order unless one was currently being built. They got back to me after a few days and said they could order the truck for me but may have one close to my spec coming in on allotment and could add the additional items at the dealer. Works for me as long as it was an Inferno 4x4 Sport with Black interior and had the Premium and Technology with JBL. I was going to give them a deposit to order the truck once we came to terms on price but figured I would wait a couple days just to be sure it's what I wanted. In the interim dealer 2 calls and I said I am about to order the truck from dealer 1 but if they wanted my business they would have to get me the exact truck I wanted and needed to do better on pricing than dealer 1. After a little back and forth with pricing they said there is no way I am getting that price from dealer 1. My reply was, that's what they are giving it to me for and it's all good, I figured I would give you guys the opportunity to earn my business but I am good with buying the truck from dealer 1 if you guys aren't interested in making a deal. With that they changed their tune and said they would play with the numbers some more. They were able to get me a price I was happy with and ordered the exact truck I wanted. You should have no issues doing the same. If the dealers don't want to work with you don't be afraid to get up and walk away. I was willing to travel up to 3 hours away to get the truck I wanted for the price I wanted which that three hours gave me the option of 10+ dealers. I have bought many vehicles in my lifetime and have played the game enough to know that the dealer will 99% of the time give you the vehicle for what you want to pay for it as long as your numbers are realistic and they want to sell cars. The key is to not be desperate for a new vehicle and to stick to your guns and be willing to just get up and walk. I have walked out of many dealers over the years. The best is when they call you back a few days later and you get to reply with "Screw you, I already bought the vehicle for the price I gave you the other day and if you wanted to make a deal you should have worked with me that day." That to me is always satisfying.

I like it. Job well done. The key here is play these dealers against one another.

Sorry about your luck, man. I walked in said what I wanted and brought up true car (they honored the discount). Now i'm playing the waiting game. DCSB 4x4 OR Tow package, 6 MT. Closest dealer had one 300 miles away but it looked to be reserved. Good luck!! Waiting sucks but in the end you'll get what you want.

I didn't shop bids, I simply told the first dealer I talked to that I would, and was willing to travel 500 miles to get my truck. They gave a me a quote well below MSRP. It was a fair deal, so I put down a deposit and ordered my truck. They mentioned looking at what they had on their lot first only one time, and when I asked if one of their trucks was Quicksand OR with a MT, they checked to see if one was in the region from another dealer, it wasn't, so we filled out an order.

So far my experience with a Toyota dealer has been just fine.

Buying off the lot has been impossible in my area until like this week.

For the first time the dealer a few miles from me has some 2016 Tacos on the lot. Mostly Gulf States TSS packages, but they did have a nice blue OR sitting there. It had $2200 in option I would not want.

unfortunately that technique doesn't work on all parts of the country. Here in the Left coast where money flows like wine, dealers don't care about lowering the MSRP, because they know the next guy with tesla stock will go buy it at full price and not blink an eye.

They are car salesmen. Of course they are all idiots, otherwise they would have a real job.

Every truck I have bought at Toyota I bought off the lot and was lucky to get it, back in 84 the xcab 4wd was the ride and you not only paid MSRP but you paid additional dealer markup...(Larry Miller Toyota Phoenix) Since then you have gotten away from that and if you can negotiate off the MSRP your doing well or its the EOM and they need to move vehicles, but when it comes to the Tacoma especially nowadays if you can find what you want or close to it on the lot your better off buying it now, or it will be gone by the end of the day.

My case I did not want MGM or predators, would have liked the tech package, but am happy with what I got and I am not missing heated seats or the sunroof...but I am glad I pulled the trigger instead of waiting...

As someone else here stated Chris Lopez at Riverview !! Knows the trucks and will go out of his way to help you ! I am on the run side of the country to buy there but when I was looking I caught him on here and he knew the correct answers to every question I asked without having to get back to me. I know others on here have bought from him and were very happy with him. Good luck !

IF you are special ordering a truck at this juncture I seriously doubt they will budge much off MSRP Why?Because they will have a truck you not only want, but waited for,

People are paying MSRP because there are more buyers than trucks. A few of us got good deals, and some Great deals, but in my case , I have a great relationship with my dealership and have purchased five vehicles there and have had ALL my service done there for years,. So whatever I buy , it's below invoice or $500 over Invoice (for high demand vehicles) plus Tax ttl.

Yeah, you'd have to be a pretty inept dealer to give someone a huge discount for a vehicle they want to order and wait for. Off the lot is a different story, I got a few thousand off MSRP, which was right around invoice on my Limited. I thought it was interesting that another dealer offered to "acquire" the truck I bought for $600 more than I ended up paying where it was in stock. That would have been okay if I didn't know where it was located since $500-600 is normal dealer trade value for high demand vehicles. Do your research on who has what you want in stock and what people are paying for what you want. If nobody has one on the lot, you're probably gonna get screwed, even from the best dealer.

Aztruckin...try Brittaney, in the internet dept at Tempe Auto Nation. She quoted me invoice for an ordered Blue Pearl, 4x4 DCSB. I was going to pick it up in May, then the Sales Mgr kyboshed it, cause I was shipping it back to Hawaii. Some goofy Toyota rules about not sending new Trucks to Hawaii, cutting into the local business.

I find Florida prices suck. They all want to add market adjustment to the price.
