This thread has convinced me to leave mine the way they are OEM.

I just used the hairdryer method literally took me seconds to remove and only a small amount of sticker residue left behind. That was my fault for not using the hairdryer long enough. When I removed the second visors stickers, I used the dryer longer and I'm extremely pleased. Will still need to remove a tiny bit of sticker residue but not as much as before. GooGone and it's unnoticeable. Very happy!

FYI this is only for the stickers on the fabric of the visors, not for the stickers on the plastic on the visor for the mirror. I haven't figured out how to remove those just yet. Might just find a Tacoma sticker to place on top of it and call it a day.

Has anyone tried putting a flat black sticker over the visor decal vs removing the decal; if so, did it stick well? Also, what is the hairdryer method and how does it work?

    Thanks,

    Michael

Yes. There used to be vendors, but a lot of them pulled back over liability stuff. In my case, it was the sticker itself that was annoying / distracting me. A sticker, even matte black, would have been a partial solution.

I finally realized what the whole issue was. For 12yrs before the Taco, I was exclusively riding motorcycles. So, no extraneous stickers or chrome BS or sounds (beeps / chimes). All this stuff that doesn't annoy most folks was gnawing at me.

The stock decals are put on (stupidly) using a heat activated adhesive. The hair dryer / heat gun soften the adhesive. If you hit the right temp, there is little residue left behind.

    You're welcome!

I think you'll be happy. Worse case, there is some extra work dealing with the residue, which was no big deal for me.

Alright doll-face, c'mon and bore me!
    No chemical method:

Remove the visor (just 2 screws and an electrical connector). Use the hairdryer method to soften the adhesive and pull the decal off.

    THEN

Put a paper towel down over the area where the decal was and run a hot clothes iron over the paper towel. Any leftover adhesive will be absorbed by the paper towel.

This method was posted by another user in another thread. Worked GREAT! No fuss, no muss.

I had a tiny bit of sun fading of the visor, so the area where the decals were was just a little darker. I think this has evened out over time (at least I never notice it). For serious cases of fading, there are spray cans of dye intended for automotive fabrics that are readily available.

I would be interested in pre-cut blank black decals to go over the backs of the mirror (those ARE non-removable). Didn't see them on rrentrop's site.

I took my time and checked it often. I didn't pull the sticker off until it was warm enough to pull off easy, i.e., waited until it was warm enough to the point I didn't have to pick at a corner.

My desert is like living inside a hair dryer. So I just peeled off the already peeling sticker with my bare hands.

Tried the hair dryer and paper towel/iron method today, worked perfect, came right off! One suggestion, rather than heating the leading edge move the hair dryer to the opposite side and heat that edge over the sticker, seems to pre-heat the leading edge better and takes a bit less effort. Also, using the paper towel and iron to remove any small amount of leftover glue residue seemed to have the benefit of flattening the nap of the cloth back down as well.
