VLED runs a year round sale TOYOTA10 for 10% off

Usually memorial day, 4th, black Friday (maybe a few others) they will run 20% off deals. Or spend $100 get so much off, spend $200 get so much off etc. type deals

You could also use penny lights, that's what the truckers use and very inexpensive. I just order the VLED back up light kit that mounts to the top of the license plate, definitely not cheap but looks like a great product

I run the LPB brake on the Tacoma and the LPR reverse on the tundra. Both using a pigtail harness made by members here so I didn’t have to use the duo tap that splices factory wiring

I thought about that light as well. Looks like it's durable. When I ordered I settled for 2 white VLED mini light bars I want to hook up as either reverse lights triggered by reverse or by in cab switch or under cab lights on entry. Havent decided yet. I finally finished my blue seas fuse panel so rrlays and wiring would be a cinch...Screenshot_20220405-081153_Chrome.jpg

I am definitely going to order that wire harness for my 3rd brake light on my Bestop. This truck is too expensive to start hacking into the wiring harness

working on this but with regular LED marker clearance lights
Drilled 3/4” holes with a stepped bit and waiting for paint to dry

I got the lights for cheap commercially available and trust their reliability
Significantly cheaper than VLED and I already keep on hand the other wiring stuff needed

only downside is just realized the truck is generally smoked
And don’t know how I’m gonna like them being amber and red even when turned off

started looking for Smoked ones and all I see is name brands like “Wakachakabingchow” on Amazon from guess where
Last time I went with something like that (plate LED) it quickly melted…

    IMG_5270.jpg

maybe that’s the benefit of paying more for VLEDs, the reputability

I’ll have to find out what width they are/hole size needed to find out if I’ve gone too far boring 3/4” holes in the fender making VLED incompatible and fall right through
At least 3/4” standard LEDs are commonly available.

Those look like sealed units (no seams) so I would imagine they can hold up.

Only down side to the VLEDS is their screw on installation with a tiny gasket sealing it in compression. Mine have held up well no issues for a few years now but I imagine it will be their doom eventually

I don’t know if they can be modified
Yes the common ones are sealed but they vary in grommet sleeve design to slide in. Hopefully these stay put. Or I figure out a way to retain from the back with zip ties.

I don’t know if inline fuses are needed. I’m guessing no. Because it would tap into the tail that’s already fused.
Fuses are for new additions with standalone wiring not attached to anything.

so I may try China smoked ones and if they fail eventually, oh well. At least they’re also sealed
My plate light was not sealed and that may have caused the problem
Not like this application needs the most intense high quality either; any LED there > none

I made the mistake once of Loctiting the threads on my plastic screw-on plate lights
Different setup. Plate relocated, lights are Oznium LED bolts facing down
and the loctite basically glued them to become non serviceable if I need to take the plate off; may destroy them and replace

Have you guys looked at Oznium's bolt lights? I have a set of the White/Amber switchbacks but haven't found what vehicle to install them on. They also have a Red/Amber switchback as well. Oznium has been around for well over 10yrs and was very popular when I was in the Scion scene back in 2008-2010 time frame. I've used plenty of their stuff with great reliability.

    https://www.oznium.com/led-headlights/bi-color-led-bolt

I used 2 11mm Neutral White NO Lens option for our Subaru Ascent cargo area. The picture is ONLY the 2 Oznium Bolt LED's. It's a perfect amount of light IMO since it's not so intense that it's blinding, but enough to do most everything without much shadowing. The "No Lens" option is sealed with epoxy and gives a wide spread beam pattern. The "lens" option has a 60 degree pattern.

Yeah I've seen them around for years, and people here do use them for grille lights, puddle lights, door lights.

I don't see any issues with them. I just choose VLED's as a preference.

I prefer VLED's also. I wished they had a switch back version of the light bars and pod lights in both white/amber and red/amber. Red/Amber switchback strips and pods for some reason are difficult to find at a reasonable price, at least the ones that are visible in the day time. While I have no issues with Oznium and they are reliable, it just seems like they haven't tried to innovate and keep up with the industry.

One that I have considered for a couple projects are the Feniex Quad series lights which have Red/Amber/Blue/White all in one light. From what I understand, you can run 3 modes without a controller. So if thats true, you could have run / brake / turn (amber or red) with no controller. Or you could do use one of the 3 channels to be in white for reverse. They EMS lights and you know how bright those suckers are!!

Great product looks like. Gonna have to get me a set. So many possibilities with those.

    got the fronts done
same thing just 2nd gen. Looks better.

tap was easy. Headlight side marker has two wires.
    -striped color power purple
    -black ground

    IMG_4924.jpg

need to figure out rear tap next going to be harder.
The tail lights are LED so the brake socket has 3 wires. I assume 2 power 1 ground.

1 power for the pedal brake.
1 power for running red with lights on.
as the center LED circle is responsible for both.

Going to be a challenge to determine which of the power wires is for running that I need, and not pedal brake.

It doesn’t really disassemble and that might not reveal what is what. Might be time to search for wiring diagram.

that or poke it with a needle to see what is what. Then seal back up the wrong wire with a dab of liquid electrical tape that I don’t think I have…
I’ll see if I can find room and any bare exposed metal to stick a probe and find. Rather do that than dig through a 400 page book that might not even be accurate.

don’t know if 3rd gen tails are that same way too.

That is assuming I should tap at basically close to that part of the tail.
