i bought the volant and im loving the sound but gas has gone to shit I didn't get the scoop so I recently plugged the hole with a rubber cap ( works perfect ). I didn't want hot air getting in there but also doesn't sound as good now. I've been reading up on this maf calibrator . Pretty bummed I should have to spend $200+ on another part to have the cold air intake work properly . Should I ditch my volant AKA sell it and get a TRD CAI? Or keep the volant ?

I had a Volant with the skewp and my fuel mileage was horrible with it. I sold it and got an AFE and now my mileage has gone up like 2 mpgs. If I was you I would try and sell it and get the AFE.

The AFE has a good sound to it. It also has a lot bigger filter and I like the design overall a lot better. Plus the better fuel mileage is a no brainer when ya drive 60+ miles a day like my case.

Bigger than the Donaldson dry filter?

I have the dry filter in my Volant and I've never seen a drop off in MPG, S/C or before I was S/C'd....

Which filter in your Volant are you running?

I got the oiled filter it's a monster in size and I figured it would sound louder than the dry filter due to the dry having a million layers

if you are expecting ANY mpg gains from a CAI... your looking in the wrong spot. The only thing you get as a plus compared to the stock intake (Which is a cold air intake in itself) is sound.... but thats it, you might actually see negative hp gains as well.

If you are looking for loud I'd get an exhaust.

Intakes do add a nice note but they are mainly there to try and squeeze a couple of more HP out of the motor. Especially one that has supporting mods like forced induction or aftermarket headers. Try switching to the dry filter if you want. It's better as a filter anyways.

I've never seen an intake gain more than 1 mpg. It's usually negligible for changing mpg.
