Depends on the budget, but I vote for Volks.

i actually upgraded to Volks from FN Six Shooters because of my lack of confidence in the FN's. i toss my truck around at high speeds and there was a user on here who's FN Six Shooters broke, same wheels as mine. always felt like those Six Shooters and how i drive to be Russian roulette. so i got Volks with extended studs and long lugs and am fully confident now.

lol. I’m totally kidding about the wheels and scoop. I have a scoop on my 4Runner trail and have trail wheels on my Tacoma now.

Tires matter more than wheels depending on application.

    Volk=high end wheel

    SCS=low-mid level wheel

Some people are willing to pay for a better quality product.

Fyi, I’ll have some SCS Ray 10’s in gunmetal gray for sale eventually in north Texas. When the heat breaks I’ll make them look like new.

17”, -10 offset, excellent condition. No dents or rock rash.

I'm all for spending money on something you like and value... but that's a bit of a stretch.

If SCS is low-mid level... where does that leave Moto Metal, Fuel, XD, etc?

While I've heard of balancing issues on a rare few, I've yet to see a busted SCS wheel. Please share your experience if you've heard of an SCS failure.

I would say that SCS are some of the higher quality wheels you can buy, that are specifically designed for Toyota trucks. They may not be your style or exclusive enough for you, but that doesn't take away from their reputation and functionality.

Those are all lower lever wheels.....

I never said they fail or have balancing issues or anything wrong them...

They are flow formed over seas in a high production setting with many other wheel companies.

I would run them on my tacoma all day. But they are just a run of the mill wheel like many others. Nothing about them makes them better than most $200-300 dollar wheels which puts them and the bottom of a mid level wheel IMO.

Explain why you say they are a high quality wheel? because they balance fine and don't break? Even $150 dollar ebay wheels balance fine and don't break.

as long as we're comparing high end wheels to lesser wheels, here's something to keep in mind, FN Six Shooters:[IMG]

25mph on the dirt road you see in the pic.

yes, 25mph. this is the first gen before they were marked as "Flow Formed".

For a Tacoma maybe yes, for a 700 hp street car no.

Not exactly what I said, but regardless, heres my expectations for a wheel.

    • Round
    • Balances
    • Doesn't crack, break, or otherwise fail
    • No finish issues (currently or in the future)
I'm not sure what more you expect of a wheel. But here are some additional points of consideration (for me).
    • Aesthetics
    • Hub centric (without running spacers)
    • Proper lug design for the application
    • Weight
    • Cost
What other qualifiers would you like to add? And by all means, let's have a discussion where each wheel hits or misses those marks.

Aside from light, forged, and made in Japan, I haven't seen too many points that make Volks >>>> SCS.

I have no dog in the fight... I have SCS wheels and have been perfectly happy with them. I also have Volks available to me and could certainly go that route if desired. The money aspect of the concersation is pointless... because $3k means different things to different people. Let's talk about what truly set's Volks apart from other wheels.

here's exactly why i bought mine. once i agreed on the price of entry, all the bells & whistles are awesome. but that wouldn't get me to buy these. this is a function over form deal on my truck at least. looking nice is a bonus.

That does nothing to prove your point..

Some people will pay extra for the added strength and lighter weight of a higher ended forged wheel. Again, maybe over kill for a Tacoma but there is a difference.

Some of you let the SCS marketing BS get the best of you.

You say that, but once again... where are all of these failing SCS wheels? You posted the FN Six Shooters, but OP isn't even considering those... I'm not afraid to be wrong on this point, I just havent seen any reason to believe it's an issue.

Limited production runs. People love what others can't get. Plus there is nothing special about their manufacturing process. They are made in Thailand like many other budget wheels. The conveniently leave that part out on their about page lol

Again SCS wheels are fine. I would rock them any day. But relax on putting them on this greatest wheel ever pedestal.

i replaced my FN's with Volks. i'm speaking generally about less expensive wheels. i probably wouldn't have an aversion to running SCS wheels from what i've seen as well as the design. but regarding FN's, you see what i posted and that's all i need to know. i ran on my FN's for over a year before getting the Volks fitted, Russian roulette be damned.

    Itz JDM tyte, yo!
I don't have any experience with SCS wheels, but Volk Racing makes some strong and high quality wheels. Anybody who has taken part of the track car scene would know. I have the CE28SLs on my S2000 and am looking forward to get TE37XTs for my Tacoma.
