So I just went in for my 10k service on my 2017 recently and afterward noticed a couple of interesting and very welcome things. First is that when you disable VSC and traction control by holding the button down for a few seconds in 4hi, it no longer kicks back on above 30mph like it used to. And second, if you switch back to 2wd with the two systems disabled, they stay disabled, whereas before it would turn them back on. Obviously this is awesome as it means you can drive fast dirt roads in 2wd without the vsc trying to plow you into the corner.

But I'm curious if this is an intentional change/update, some service setting that didn't get reset, or maybe just something broken :) This change definitely solved one of my biggest gripes about the truck, but wonder if anyone else has noticed the same thing.

I've found the same in my Sport for 2wd. For whatever reason, it also seems to drive better in this mode. I believe what Wiley was talking about is when switching between 2Hi and 4Hi. The TRAC modes, thanfully, sticks and doesn't revert to default.

I know that in 2Hi using the quick push for AutoLSD, the VSC Off light will go off over 30mph and come back on under 30mph. I don't recall it doing anything different with VSC in 4Hi with the long push, but I have an MT. Also, I'm just under 10k and no software updates. Probably the end of next month for the ToyotaCare service.

Good post on the link though.

I don't have the A-Trac brake controller but I can tell you that both my 2017s (4cyl 5-spd and v6 auto) would previously turn the VSC and TRAC back on above 30mph and would do the same when switching from 4hi back to 2wd. Now they most definitely stay off no matter the speed.

Yeah. SRs, SR5s, Sports, and Limiteds only have TRAC. But, it has proven to be pretty darn good for us.

That is kind of odd since I know you bought your V6 AT for GFC development after my MT (last September / MFG in May). The VSC Off and TRAC Off has stuck for me since new, other than the 2Hi / quick push to AutoLSD. Since I don't have a lot of good wheeling close to home, I usually have to get in my 10mi/mo switching between 2Hi and 4Hi on straight sections of my commute.
